In my collection I have an obscure album from 1976 called "Happy Steel Guitar Plays The Country Classics". It has a selection of current hits from that time (Behind Closed Doors, Little Bitty Tear, Before The Next Teardrop Falls etc.)
Does anybody know who played on this album? Especially one track (A Little Bitty Tear) sounds a lot like Lloyd Green, but would he have done an album without his name on in 1976?

Over one million copies??? I have never seen that album announced in any major sales catalogs, not even in the 70's and 80's?

For those that care to know.
This album was recorded in 1976 at the then new Audio Media recorders (Nashville) in two sessions, three hours each. '75 Emmons P-P, rosewood, Sho-Bud amp, no effects, GRT was the lable and Nelson Larkin was the producer. At the end of the session, Nelson was totaly inebriated and passed out on the floor behind the console. No one ever believed that this record would ever sell anything and I told GRT that I absolutly didn't want my name on the album under any conditions. I only got $200.00 for the whole session.
This recording was for the sole purpose of collecting royalitys on the song material from foreign markets. It was not to be distributed as a "Steel guitar album". I'm not very sure "GRT" even knew what a steel guitar was.
This album was in a series on albums featuring different musical instruments, ie, "The Happy Organ", "The Happy Saxophone" Etc., I was the "Happy Steel Guitar", I just wasn't all that happy about it.
This album was distributed to all the Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and Jiffy Mart types of stores in the U.S. and then distributed to every free country in the world where American records were being sold. Yes, I wish I had taken the original deal of 78 cents a record. I don't know if it sold a Million, but could have, I 'spose.
Doesn't matter now, but it was my first ever instrumental recording.
bOb has them for sale here. Might be nice for steel guitar history.

Walter,
The fact that you have this album in Austria shows how good a job GRT did of distributing it. I'm looking for another distribution deal like this! But with a better recording!

I didn't buy the album regularly, I purchased my copy from Buckaroo Records in Portland, Oregon, formerly run by Craig Moerer. They specialize in selling and auctioning of used records. I guess I bought it in the late 80's.
