I'm sure I have heard someone do this on steel - sounds like it ought to be Tom Morrell, but I can't find it in my CD collection.

One of your countrymen, Gerry Hogan or Dave Heyward performed the tune at ISGC one year.
More than likely would've been Gerry.

Manhattan Transfer doing Gene Purling's (th Hi Lo's) arrangement is the definitive vocal version IMHO. (not that you asked )

I was at Gerry's UK convention a couple of years ago, and he did a lot of fine stuff. I'm didn't hear him do that one though, so he must have worked it out later.
