There has been so many threads on Jerry Garcia and his steel work on this song I was persuaded to try to do it for my ClicTab Lesson Series in the hopes it might be of value to others. I hesitated to put it up but ..I did? Be aware:
(a)I dropped the tempo a "mite" so the music
can be followed easier with the tab.
(b) I try to play the whole song while the tab includes the intro, break and the ending.
(c)The guitar backup was an afterthought and
I made a second track for it. So all the steel work was done from start to finish with no backup. That accounts for any timing
infractions.
It was a learning exercise for me and along with many others I now more than ever agree that Jerry was something else as a musician. His brain was way ahead of his hands and fingers but he still came through bigtime.
An undisputed steel guitar classic.
The link is undernoted Song # 24.

Do you know why bagpipers like to walk around when they are piping???
...harder to hit a moving target!

Are the bagpipes all-squeeze or push-squeeze ??

Ok, I will add another occasional piper here also, who likes Jerry.
I have played a gig with pipes and banjo.
That's enought to make b0b totally apoplectic!
Last winter I played a guitar sit-in with an Ullian piper, and he cleared an irish bar in 60 minutes! Must be a record.
Yes all squeeze of course, but there ARE pedal pipes.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 21 November 2003 at 12:51 AM.] |

As David mentioned, yes, there is a "Push/Pull" type of bagpipe.
In the FWIW department, I think Roy is the only person I know of that could play Piobaireachd on C6th.

No C6th but going back to Mike's post I had a pedal on my pipes that changed the bass drone note to slide one half tone to the (3) note of the V chord. It worked.
I tried to patent it but it was ruled illegial by the worldwide Scottish Society.

Back to topic I have been getting some feed back on the tab for Teach Your Children.
In the first two measures of the Bridge
drop the numbers down a string ie instead of string 4 make it string 5 etc. Then it will work.
I have sent a correction to Ron Turner and it should be corrected shortly.
My apologys for any inconvenience.
Roy
