I saw Robert Randolf & his family band in KC last night and I can say that after 30 + years of watching steel players, I have never seen any other steel guitarist so work up & carry away a crowd. People were out of their minds wild just like at a revival meeting. Now I don't have a strong opinion on whether I like his steel playing, & I have seen lots of postings by steelers who don't care for what he is doing, but he was good, & will hopefully do more to attract people to the steel. (Most of the audience members I heard refered to it as a slide guitar!) Go hear this guy if you have a chance - he is fun!! |

I seen this kid play on VH-1 and just missed him in Lansing, MI. I'm impressed.
I'm sure this has been covered before but what tuning is he using?

Missed the show, was working a bunch of overtime last week so I didn't have time to read the newspaper, etc. Where was the concert? |

I saw Robert Randolph and the Family Band at the Memorial Union in Iowa City on Nov. 11. I was impressed with his steel technique and the overall musianship of the quartet. Robert does have fun playing the steel and exciting the crowd. I wasn't expecting any country, I just wanted to know what he was about. I'm sure the venue (college age) influenced his program but I only heard funk and blues played at gut wrenching and ear splitting volume. I'm glad I experienced it, but my concern for my audio health will prevent me from doing it again.
