Would anyone care to guess the ratio of steel guitars to Spanish and Spanish style guitars (electric lead) in the U.S.?

I don't have the answer; and it would be difficut to get an accurate accounting. You might consider this: In Las Vegas, on Industrial Way, there is a guitar store, Ed Roman's Guitars, that claims to have the highest number of guitars, approximately 5,000, under one roof. When I was in the store last year they had one simple Carter pedal steel (I believe it is called the Starter) and two 6-string lap steels.

Much the same here in u.k. Rick as far as my personal experience goes. In fact I called into a music shop today near where I live. Regular guitars everywhere!!! even hanging from the ceiling. I asked to look at any steels he had and there was one! An Artisan lying on the back of a shelf behind some boxes. And that was priced at twice what it should have been. I'm sure there must be specialist stores over here to cater for steel needs but not a lot of them around. Best wishes from Wales........Patrick

Living in Norway I can only say that if it hadn't been for eBay I probably wouldn't have played lap steel at all.....

My less-than-scientific research says approximately 2 percent: of the 12,438 guitars currently listed on GBase.com, 258 are lap or pedal steels.

That's about four times higher than my less-than-scientific guess ...
