For those of you trying to learn and working on learning the C6th side of things like me, a must have is David Wright on the bandstand. Most of the c6th instruction is aimed at western swing Bob wills kind of stuff,David takes a lot of the same type of chord voicings, and single note riffs and applies them, with the help of a young lady by the name of Janice Allen,to blues, country, jazz, you name it. For crying out loud he's taking c6th rides on I fall to pieces , The key's in the mailbox plus killer instrumental's on secret love plus others. Although this is not an instructional cd and David is probably playing a universal tuning the application of his voicings etc Is exactly what I've been craving to hear, And is very applicable to c6th .Also his e9th playing on this cd is awesome. |

I saw David playing in the MSA room at Scotty's and he was real quite impressive.
I partiqularly enjoyed the impromptu cutting session with Joe Wright.
They brought out the best in each other and looked like they been dueling off and on for a LOOOONG time.
David was also very entertaining and informative. If the video is anything like this, it's surely worth getting. |

Yes, I listen to that CD a lot. It sounds like they had a lot of fun performing this good time music. David has a big sound, and yes, a great play along CD. No matter what I'm doing when I have it on in the house, and "The Key's In The Mailbox" comes on, I grab my dobro.... can't help myself. |

Gene,
Yea, that would have been little Bobby Dixion, he lives in the Dallas area..I sold him that guitar some years ago, we took a old Wright in on trade, the ol Wright had been under his X~wifes bed for some 18 + years, she findly gave it back to him, Bless her heart ..My Dad had built the Wright for Tom Morrell, and Tom played it and then horse traded Bobby for a Fender he was playing , sceem he wanted to trade in the Wright for a Bigsby, he could get more money for a Fender than a Wright, so as the story goes Bobby took the Wright and gave Tom his Fender...The old Wright was sitting in the shop in Portland the last time I saw it...
