we need a new requirement that says that all of you pro players and long time players
must post a sign in front of your steel while you are playing that reads: WARNING THIS INSTURMENT IS MUCH HARDER THAN IT LOOKS.....thanks to all of you for inspiring us

I'm thinking of putting yellow "CAUTION" tape across the front of mine.

I have gotten more than one chuckle out of this thread.
I will add the following in a more serious vain. The pedal steel guitar, IMO, is the world's most difficult instrument to learn.
I have been told the Sit'tar is. But knowing what I know, I truly believe it now has to take second fiddle ( ) to the PSG.
But like all things that are difficult, once learned many make it look soooooo easy. Such is the case with the likes of Jerry Byrd, Maurice Anderson, Buddy Emmons, et al.
I have NO idea the number of hours they have expended perfecting their playing proweress. But I can say without any doubt that at one or more times, they felt as you do.
Stay with it. "where there is a will....there IS a way"

Carl, Billy Cooper once told me that Buddy Emmons spends just an obscene amount of time practicing. His wife complains that even when he's home, she still never sees him!! This is why I believe he's probably the best that's ever lived, because he brought a lot of natural talent and a ton of perspiration to his craft. And thank you again for the tape, that was very kind and thoughful of you and I do appreciate the gesture. |
