OK, I'm back at work after an incredible weekend in St. Louis.
It's so hard to get motivated. All I want to do is play Lloyd's new CD or decipher the tab to "A half-Dozen Shuffles" that I brought back with me.
But I can't. I have a job. Reports to get out. Proposals to review. Responsibilities...etc.
My big weekend is over. Depression beginning to set in.
A co-worker comes in to my office and finds me grinning from ear to ear and on the verge of hysterical laughter!
"oh, it's nothing", I said. "just thought of something funny".
He leaves my office and I can't hold back any longer. I let it fly! (laughter, that is). Tears are welling up!
I think I have found my new "happy thought" for fighting the blues. I picked it up in St. Louis while I was sitting on the floor in front of the stage.
Buddy Emmons was in the middle of a set and had just switched over to the E-9 neck for a country shuffle. Unfortunately, he got his legs twisted up and wrapped around the wrong levers or something. Anyway, here comes his big solo. Time to lower some E's!! No lever!!! Big E scrambles. Pauses during the middle of the solo, fingers probing for the lever. Too late!! Gotta get back to the solo! Plays some more, then pauses again at just the right moment in the solo. Hands and fingers probing again, knees moving side to side. Buddy starts to panick. A look which to the unaided eye and those unfamiliar with Buddy, resembles a great big grin all over his face! Finally! His hands find the lever and the solo resumes. Buddy's eyes roll slightly in a half embarassed "why me lord" look. He laughs at himself the way Buddy does and keeps on going! The folks listening in on Steel Radio.com never knew anything happened. Sounded like the normally awesome Buddy to them.!
The big thing we all love about Buddy is that he can laugh at himself on stage and often does. He has fun up there, laughs, cuts up, and it is incredibly infectious. We love it! I don't know anyone that looks like they are having as much fun as Buddy. He almost got a round of applause for tuning!
There you have it. Another thing in my anti-depression therapy toolbox. I have to get back to work now. My boss thinks that grin on my face is because I am happy with the new assignment he just gave me!!
Thanks, Buddy.
Thanks for bringing some laughter and music into my life.
Best Regards,
Terry
