I just have to say, WOW. I have recently played some gigs with a new artist on Mercury named Billy Currington. Not only is he a great singer, he is a great writer as well. In playing the gigs, I worked out the Paul Franklin licks note for note and was very blown away. It seems to me that the players on this Cd were allowed to stretch out more than normal and some very fresh ideas resulted. This Cd has not been released yet, but be on the lookout for it.
Also, I am touring with Buddy Jewell and the steel playing on his Cd is mindboggling as well. If you want to have some fun, listen to the "mini solos"/"fills" on "I Can Get By". What was Paul thinking? Too many Froot Loops for breakfast? If so, eat them every day Paul. Some of the best out-of-this-world playing I have heard in a long time. Paul continues to "raise the bar" in the steel guitar world. (pun intended).

Dave, I could not agree more. Paul has that rare gift of being able to slip into anything with the perfect taste, feel and voicing that always amazes me. He is constant inspiration for me... |

Dave..great comments and congrats on your gigs with Buddy..
I have been listening to some incredible stuff played by Paul not only on the Buddy Jewell Cd but on Terry Clarks new Cd as well..He is pretty amazing taking this Instrument to approaches which are uncommon.
I have also come to really like what is going on in Shania's new song ..Always and Forever..
Paul if you are reading..thanks for the good stuff..
and how about a comment on the Shania session and the interaction between the voice and the steel..
Dave, keep up the good work..

Paul also got to do stretching on Doyle Dykes CD called "Country Fried Pickin'" as only he can do. Of course if you haven't heard Doyle play, he is a premier finger picker in the Chet Atkins genre and then some. |

I love to listen to Paul even on those tracks where he probably couldn't bear to hear himself......
Paul is the living refutal to the Peter Principle.
