Chas
I just tried something at tonight's gig, and... you're not gonna believe this, but I'm completely serious... it works better than anything I've tried.
Clown shoes!
Vintage Emmons guitar, Evans amp, and clown shoes. That's the combo for me!

Oh Herb!
You're such a fashion starter, and just when I was starting to get used to the "pumps!" Now I'll probably have to buy a "big red nose, too!" (Gee,I hope I can find something to wear in polka dots)

Billy,
I was a bit caught of guard passing you on the way into "Victoria's" just as I was on my way out. By the way, I couldn't help noticing your new "pink fuzzy slippers" you wore at the Opry while playing guitar with Porter. Nice touch. I thought they matched your eyes perfectly!
I sure hope no one noticed the "stubble" on TV, I've been so busy trying to stay up with "Herb" I forgot to shave my legs!

THAT'S IT!..I KNEW THAT I WAS RIGHT! Bob..You've got to change the name of the forum to the LUNATIC SOCIETY!!!..After years of carefull observation and research I knew I was on the right track. STEELERS ARE!! A DIFFERENT BREED! We've got an epidemic here!.
My next gig may be on the band stand behind the wire caged room at the local looney bin.
What guy(?) in his right mind would even attemt to try to play in PINK FLUFFY SLIPPERS? Purple is MOER Elegent..or chartrouce....Maybe this thread should be moved to the "SMILEY" section!!!!!!!!!

Billy,
I think the letters "HI" are very appropriate since you were pickin' with Porter. Kinda matches the lining of his coat and all.
I didn't get to see Tommy's shoes since he was sitting behind that wall when he played. (I have it on good authority tho that they were "very sexy!") I beleive him and Hoot both shop at the same place.
Just kiddin'TW!

Dave, now I see why you married a tall girl .....Billy, I did a session with Dina today & she was wearing some of your clothing too !! Herb.....well... how does it feel to finally admit the truth ???
(& btw,no more sharing rooms with you). Chas... Im just curious if any of those rings ever get caught in any part of your guitar???? ouch!!
I personally prefer some type of Gold lame trousers with a totally innappropriately colored hawaiian shirt, black socks & brown K-Mart loafers.....kind of a cross between Elvis, Don Ho & Goober, all of them big fans of the steel, btw.
However, I do see that some of my most trusted compadres do have some
serious issues to deal with...
Perhaps there is in all this, a concept for a new episode of Jerry Springer....Steel Guitarists & their
lingerie...???? .....boys, yer scarin' me ...

Mike,
I particularly like the gold lame and hawaiian shirt! Now if you could just put some "fringe" with it somewhere I think you might have the makin's of a new fad!

What John Sims said!
Nekkid is good. sandals or deckshoes are what I like. moccasins I will try tonite!
First thing I do when I get home is strip to my drawers and head to my steel. Maybe John has something there. Maybe Nekkid is Better!!!

Bill,
that reminds me,
I told my wife I was going to trade her in for two twenty year olds, but she told me I wasn't wired for 220! I guess I don't need that second verticle lever afterall.

Open Post To All Young Steel Players...!!
DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE CRUSTY OLD GEEZERS TELLIN' YOU WHAT TO WEAR TO THE GIG..!
Especially if you live (or play) in East Texas, BE CAREFUL...!!
I recently went to sit in with a band at the local tavern in Lone Star and wanting to take the advice of one of my heroes, the inimitable Herb Steiner, I tried to get in the door with the old cowboy boot on the left foot and the 4" pump on the right.... NOT A GOOD IDEA... four heavy-duty redneck locals thought the attire not only inappropriate for the club in question, but thought I should leave the immediate area entirely and visit Longview Regional Hospital for a few days...
Herb - that crap may play in Austin, but if you head East, you better watch your a... er..... feet..!

Crusty ol' geezers, huh? That's pretty funny!
OK, 'crusty ol' geezers" line up on this side, behind me an ol' Herb.
"New kids" on that side!
Hahahhaha!!!!
By the way, where is ol' Seymour, anyway? (he can line up in the middle!)

After putting on my chest-high waders to read thru these posts, it occurred to me that perhaps THEY may be suitable for playing as well. Ya know...the kind with those nice felt soles for good footing? The rednecks at the honky-tonks probably wouldn't look twice at you, and you'd be sure to impress if you were playing with one of those big Rapala stickbaits as a bar(with the hooks removed, of course). |
