found some classic pics last night.
this is the FBBs somewhere around 1980 or so,
my dad thought these were taken at the Lone Star
in NYC.
Pete's steel is pink because gene parsons had the idea that
the entire band should paint all the equipment pink and go
play the Palamino in turbans. well anyway that the story I got. I think thats black lace around the aprons.
have a good one,
Jesse

Yes, it's the Lone Star Cafe. I played there several times in the 70's.
Others on the bandstand: Eddie Ponder, one of my dearest buddies of all time, on drums; Gib Guilbeau on fiddle/guitar; and the late Skip Battin on bass.
An excellent incarnation of the Burritos, IMHO.

Thanks Jesse for those great shots. I saw a lot of shows at the Old Lone Star, nice to see that stiar case going up to the balcony right next to he stage.
To think they closed it down and turned in into a Bennigan's restaurant.
The Lonestar always had a great variety of music. I remember seeing James Brown, Poco, Comander Cody, Mick Taylor, Jerry Jeff, amoung others.

I think that "Lace" was used as a stencil and the color was airbrushed through it.
That was all the rage on custom car and bike paint jobs about that time period.

I played there in 81 through 83, off an on. When we were playing with the FBB,Pete had both his Session 400's, sitting directly behind him. He was gracious enough to let me use his rig, for our sets. The first note I played, nearly knocked me off the stage. I couldn't believe how loud he had them set. I had to call over one of their roadie's, to see if I was allowed to turn the volume down. I was allowed, and the rest of the night was pure bliss. Playing through one of my hero's setup. And then, BS'ing with him in between sets. The Lone Star made us all take 40 minute brakes between musical groups at the time. It was really a time to remember. |

Tell him "Hi!" for me, too. I played Celtic harp at his wedding. |

Looks like The Lone Star because of the stairs in the background. I'm in the 3rd photo, that's my bald spot.
Cool place it was. Our answer to "The Palomino". There was a tear up group from NJ that I always enjoyed..."Blue Sparks From Hell"....(Buck Dilly?)
It used to have a giant iguana on the roof (2 story building). It's now a gourmet market/deli. It really sucks when that happens.
BTW, that lace on the apron is Venice. 60" width, 50 yds. on a roll. Rayon/acetate. Gives a brighter tone......[This message was edited by HowardR on 11 August 2003 at 03:38 PM.] |

I have heard the virtues of Black guitars,
but how about pink,
or black lace guitars?
and John I got to see them often and yes it
was damn loud, no matter how small the club
or the room it was always that loud, but when he
played it never seemed too loud to me.
but I was like 10 yrs old so.....

Thank you for posting the pics. Sneaky Pete, wow, one of my all time musical heroes! I cull through my huge record collection every once in awhile and play a bunch of oddball tracks the he played on. What an original he is. An absolute inspiration to me. In fact, I've been thinking of doing a sort of "Sneaky Pete" tribute on my new Cd. Kind of a "in the style of" thing.

The next time anyone is thinking about posting pics, I'd suggest trimming the size to about 700 X 1024 pixels.
The pics here were considerably larger which forced the page to go larger, and it was unable to fit on my screen-- and I got a BIG screen! I had to scroll back and forth to see the messages since the pics forced the page to be wider.
