Paul, I saw the documentary too and thought the Russian group, Bering Straits, was super--and you're right, the steel was very prominent and good exposure for the instrument . I tried to identify the steel picker but couldn't get a good look at him. He played some nice stuff! ...lefty

Thanks, Lefty !! At least there were the two of us. I think that band has super talent and personality. I like the way they present themselves and it's almost as if we were the ones breaking new ground when you listen to them talk. I'll bet it will be a long time before we hear some political statements from them. Their music is too close to their hearts and they are too new to freedom to want to walk on it. I hope they go far and well !!

I didn't see the rerun, but I did see
the profile on 60 Minutes when it
originally aired some months back.
He can definitely pick, that's
for sure!

The steeler's name is Sasha Ostrovski(sp?), and he plays good pedal steel and exceptional Dobro. For anyone that's interested, they're booked at Hershey Park, in Hershey PA on Sept. 6th. (I plan to be there.)

That was Sasha. He is a tremendous musician as is the rest of the band. He plays a Sho-Bud LDG pedal steel also. Duane Marrs set it up and regulated it for him in Madison. You can see him on Duane's web site at www.duanemarrs.com.

Donny: When you get to Hershey, let me know if they still have street lights shaped like Hershey Kisses. I grew up just east of there and spent lots of wonderful times at the park. And do post your comments on Bering Straits after the show, Please !!
