WOWWOWOOWW!!! Vernon Oxford!!..There is a name i haven't heard in a long long time..
That guy just had "country music" dripping off of him if you know what i mean..He always reminded me of a male Loretta Lynn.I saw him one time on TV years ago on the Country Carnival ( i think was the name of it-been a long time ago)anyway the show was hosted by Del Reeves at that time..He had ol' Vernon on there & Del could NOT keep a straight face-Vernon almost needed a translator..Vernon did a knocked out country to the bone song about some guy that was lookin' at his woman & he was gonna kick his well you get the idea..Thanks for bring ing him up...A very good singer...Ron

I was playing at an Amvet club back in about 1973-74 in Fayetteville, Arkansas and Vernon Oxford appeared there. He just happened to be a cousin to one of the waitresses. At that time he had a record out called "In The Shadows Of My Mind". The guy dressed like Hank Sr. and sang country to the bone. Can't remember who was playing steel at that time but it could have been Ben Jack or George Elliott. Anyways, it was a fun time playing with him and doing three chord country songs.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Yeah, Vernon's music was about as country as it gets.

I heard a rumor that Vernon is preaching in Ireland these days---think I'll head on over to "Humor" and ask AMOK if she knows anything about that.
