Years ago I heard a great version by Lloyd of "Canadian Sunset". This was on a '45. Is this song on one of his LP's?

Butch,

Yes it is on the C.B.S. album "Steel Rides". It is a great album. A word of note, Lloyd told me one time that the producer Chip Young had him cut direct on this album and it was when direct boxes were a new thing and they kept blowing the boxes up.
Lloyd still got a great sound though even if he didn't use an amp.

I just burned a CD of my old Steel Rides vinyl. I wasn't much of an instrumental fan back then, but I had to have that album. I'm glad I didn't play it much. It really came out nice on CD and I enjoy the steel albums a lot nowadays especially with headphones at work.

Hey! Who's the beautiful blonde on the cover?

Ron,

That beautifull blonde is Lloyd's wife Dot. She's also on the cover of Lloyd's "Feelings" album.

I've always loved LG's rendition of this tune. Sounds to me like it's double tracked in some places.

Thanks, Mike. I thought that might be the case but I never assumed it was.

Reminds me of when I was a consultant and my client had a picture of a beautiful woman on his desk, which I correctly took to be his wife. I asked him, "Is that your wife or was that picture in the frame when you bought it?"

Anyway, my CD has only a printed label but I'm keeping that LP AND THE COVER.

I have a tape (somewhere) of Emmons doing Canadian Sunset. Really Good. Uses Big Band back-up. I haven't heard LG's version but would like to. Maybe Scotty has it.

Hi Mike

Is "Coconut Grove" also on the"Steel Rides" album?

I heard "Coconut Grove" played by Lloyd on
WCCO Radio in Minneapolis in the 1970s. I was surprised because WCCO was a MOR station. (middle of the road station).

Yes Coconut Grove is on the same album. It also has the cut of San Antonio Rose that d.j.'s used as breaktunes back then. And one of the best versions of Crying Time you've ever heard. But I think my favorite cut on the album is a tune Lloyd wrote called "Lutitia". It just kills me everytime I hear it.

I remember visiting Lloyd one weekend and he didn't have a copy of his current album so we went to a super market, walked in and he bought one and gave it to me. Those were surely my glory days but I didn't know it then !! I was too busy living like the cats in the cradle.

Regards, Paul
