Hats off to LT and Evelyn for making this event happen. The awful weather conspired to keep away some of the players and crowds, but it was still a fun event with great music. And I got to hang out with my steel guitar buddies like Skeeter.
My set on Friday went better than expected (I'm comfortable with my terribleness). The band was great: Roy Rosetta, Ben Brogdon, Frank Rogers, Dan Crampden. Rob Parker got up and sang a couple tunes. Talk about pros, these guys make so much good music it really took the pressure off. Hell, Bill Stafford said "Good job!" after my set. What a gentleman! Thank you LT and Evelyn for making room on the schedule for me.
Dan Dowd and Jim Cohen were two players I had not heard before, and both were MOST excellent.
Frank Rogers' band couldn't show so he didn't do a steel guitar set. That was a major disappointment. I tried to "guilt-trip" him, but it didn't work:>)
All those pickers who never thought they could get up in front of a crowd at a steel guitar show, if I can do it, you can do it!
cheers,

Drew,
Glad to hear it was a good show. I have gone in previous years, but couldn't make it this year. Sounds like you guys had some bad weather up there.
Hey did Gary Morse get to the show? How was his set? I have always liked his style and watching him up close like that is a real treat!

I attended the show Sunday along with four friends from the South Eastern part of the state, Ypsilanti and Monroe area. All agreed
it was a great experience. I had bragged on this event for the last year.
Thanks to everyone involved for a great show. |

I'm so disappointed I had to miss it due to the weather. Sources tell me that Gary was there and was inducted into the Mich. HOF.
Congrats Gary! |

Gees....It sure was nice weather the weekend before when I drove 372 miles to attend the show.
I was going to go again this past weekend but my brother, who lives in Michigan, called and told me about the bad weather.
Was Sonny Curtis there?
Also......Congrats to Bill Kennedy for his induction into the MIchigan Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame.

Gary Morse was inducted into the MI HOF, as was Bill Kennedy. They had tapes of his radio show from 50 years ago that they played during his induction. Nice touch!
Gary Morse is probably the only steeler on the show that's been on top 40 country radio in the last 5-10 years. He played some tunes on a 7-string Dobro during his set. He really put on a great show!
Sonny Curtis' style is classic with a capital C. He channels Lloyd Green. Loud too, he had two Randall amps on stage.

Joey.....thanks for the congrats! I had a great time at the show and feel honored to have been inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Michigan Steel Guitar Association.
If all goes well I will play there again next year and hope to see some of the players that were unable to make it this time due to the terrible weather. |

I'm very disappointed I had to miss this show. It would have been fun to play with such a stellar band. And it is always great hanging out with the steel guitar community. I was honoured to be part of this lineup! I hope I'll get a chance to play next year. Bob |

When Gary Morse was inducted into the MI Hall of Fame, they played a couple of taped messages, one from Dwight Yoakam congratulating Gary on his "win".
That was cool!
