Guys, When I downloaded Jeff's MP3s, I couldn't open them. And I'm probably not the only one. But I had no problem opening some MP3s from Jim Cohen that he sent me. (BTW Jim's stuff is really great. )
Jim is either doing something that you are not, or has a program that you don't have. Whatever it is, I wish you'd all talk to each other and do whatever he's doing so that I can play the MP3s. Thanks.

Mike:
Don't know what your problem could be, but, for curiosity sake, I downloaded Jeffs' Danny Boy from Rickys' site and it opened and played fine in Winamp when I double clicked on it. I'm using Netscape 4.6 and right clicked on the title then clicked Save Link As.

For some reason, Jeff's song opened up in RealPlayer instead of Winamp on my computer. I was unable to save it to my HD. Is that the way it's suppose to be?
Once again....Great Playing Jeff! |

What piece of software plays or runs a certain file has to do with the association between the file extension and the software chosen as the default player.
The different media players, i.e Real Player, Windows Media, Winamp, etc. usually by default try to take control of all of your media files to become your dominate player. This happens as you install different players. For example ..mp3 files used to play in Windows Media player until you recently installed Real Player, now they play in Real Player.
Well, the good news is you can control what player does what. I won't get into the specifics of each one, but basically you want to go into the options menu of the player you actually want to use and make sure that the extension you want to play is assigned to be played by that player.
For Jeff's tunes, the extension is .mp3, so make sure you have .mp3 files assigned to the program you want to actually use to play all .mp3 files.
Mike, in your case, it sounds like you may have a problem getting .mp3 files to load from within your browser, but work fine when sent via email?. Are you using IE or Netscape? When Jim sent you his MP3's was it via email? What program did they play in? Can you click on other MP3's from other sites? If you email me some specifics I can try and help you out. If you can play them when someone emails them to you, I'm sure Jeff would be happy to accommodate you until we get it figured out.

Mike,
I'm emailing the .mp3's of "Danny Boy (sort of)" and "The Christmas Song" to you in two different e-mails. Let me know if you can hear them. And thanks for asking.

WEll from my site at Mightyfinemusic.com.......most likely that page(Jeff's Jazz) isn't formatted for Netscape yet..
Stephen O'brien has accommedated some of the other pages like "music and Video" section for Netscaper's but probably hasn't done that page up.
Stephen is the web designer for my site...so if you ask him nicely> he may do it...ha.....but we HATE Netscape...ah..ha.

All files opened for me no problem. They run in iTunes.
Some of you may have mp3's set to open in the wrong helper apps, and it may damage the files. Downloading directly to your disk and then opening in your mp3 app may help.
I got Danny Boy and it ran in a loop for about 2 hours straight! |

Jeff, thanks for E-mailing me the MP3s. I was able to open Danny Boy (wow!) but not the Christmas song.
I wonder what the difference is between them. |
