I got a Delphi and I want to install a pickup at the neck. Can anyone recomend a pickup? I'll be playing them blues. How about a p-90? [This message was edited by Andre Nizzari on 24 May 2005 at 03:13 PM.] |

If you want the resonator sound, which is why I assume you gat a National Delphi, then try to get a resonator mounted pickup such as the Beard, Fishman, or McIntyre. Am not familiar with "p-90". I beleive Keb Mo uses a Fishman.
Thanx,

Acually, I want to be able to blend in the acoustic sound of the delphi and mix in some of an "electric guitar" sound when recording. |

Andre, any kind of P-90 style I've seen would require fairly extensive routing in your axe, I think. You might first try one of the flat stick-on Barcus Berry Reso pickups, they get a pretty fair blend of acoustic/electric tone.

I have Barcus-Berry stick-on type on my Scheerhorn, and it is a magnetic type. It will scream through a Boss SE-70. I have installed a Barden humbucker on my old Dobro and it is fine as well, but I had to cut a hole in my instrument, because the height on most magnetic pickups will require that.
My favorite acoustic pickup is in my National style "O"; it is a Highlander recommended to me by Keb Mo. It is truely amazing. It will accept a little bit of distortion, but it will feed back uncontrollably if you try to intensely distort and electrify.
So I would go with the Highlander if it is a Biscuit cone resonator.
If you want loud, screaming blues fusion, I'd get a lap steel with a Roland V-wah pedal
or something like it. |
