That triple neck Fender has to be built in the mid 1950's.

Baz, it looks like it's a very early Fender Custom, maybe late 40's even, possibly it originally had the "boxcar" picups. The pickups on it now are not original, the control plate is not original, the bridges are not original. The finish looks original but badly worn and the tuner pan is pitted and rusted, wonder how would the tuners be... I wouldn't bid any higher  |

| Oh forgot to mention, those fretboards look like they have roman numeral markers, that makes it early, 49-52 maybe. |

| Hello Basil. I'm only a beginner on this forum (this is my first post) Those pickups are identical to one I had made for my first lap steel in about 1957/8. It was made by a chap in Leeds, I've long forgotten his name but he used to advertise in "B.M.G.". If you've any old copies lying around you may find out.......Best wishes......Patrick |

| Baz...It's a "butchared" CUSTOM. Hardly anything except the wooden body and tuning pegs seem to be original. Personally, I think the price for this disaster is too high. JMHO |

| The fretboards HAVE got Roman Numerals..and, I think that the pick-ups are the same as was fitted on the ORIGINAl 400 and 1000.. I have an original one and it looks the same..Could this be a "Transitional" guitar somewhere between the "Traps" and the Stringmaster types ? |

Lads !! you must remember that we are living in a "Steel Guitar Wilderness" here in the UK and ANY form of tripple neck is very hard to come by.. I do have three sets of stringmaster tunning pans and tuners, Plus 6 Stringmaster and an old Fender 400 pickups.. I also have two Deluxe 8's that I would butcher to make a decent three neck..
For me, the body, legs and fretboards are all I need, anything else is a bonus..
I'm NOT convinced that the guitar is mid 50's .. I think Max is probably right at 49-52.. would Jody or Rick know ? |

Nope. No. Nah. No way, Jose. There wasn't such a thing as a transitional model. This is a Fender Custom with severe modifications to it, modifications that in my opinion make it worth far less than its current eBay auction bid price.
Fender never issued a Custom steel guitar with those pickups. It's unfortunately hard to tell if the bridges on the two "non-modified" necks are original from the photos. Add to these issues the rust, pitting and general condition of the instrument in question and you've got a real fixer-upper, something I doubt even Ricky Davis would be interested in handling.
"Neglected condition" is being charitable.
Having said all that, I'd love to see this guitar restored to something close to original condition.

| Yes Basil it certainly was a "Cyril" but can't remember the rest. Lost that guitar in a theft in Hull, made a new one since but that was rubbish. Using an Artisan now on C6th. Its a bit of an up-hill struggle for me now but enjoying it immensely. Regds. |
