I am discussing publishing a steel guitar magazine and wonder what the interest/support level is among the players and readers of this forum. If you would support a magazine like this please reply! Thank you in advance for your thoughts, suggestions, and ideals.

I would definitely support it. I was very disappointed when Steel Guitar World Magazine folded.

I think it would be tough to stay current when you're competing with the Internet. In the old days, I would immediately devour any steel related magazine I could find. Now I don't subscribe to any. Email and this Forum is enough for me.

Terry...
I would most definitely support such an endeavor, but for your own sanity, please keep in mind the fate of Steel Guitar World and Steel Guitarist Magazine. I wish you luck in anything you come up with. God Bless You and yours.

I would.

Be careful not to overextend yourself.
History has not been kind to Steel Mags.

Maybe a quarterly or twice yearly?

Joey,

It would likely be every other month. Possibly a first issue being Dec. 15th or Jan. 15th.

Terry, I would not mind a bi-monthly or quarterly publication. Just try to remember that if you get into trouble with it and can't do it anymore, at least let your subscribers know. Most of us would understand. It's a tough thing to run. Maybe you could get some famous player to do a Qand A column. Maybe a different one each time. Just a thought. Good luck and keep us posted.

Craig,

Thanks for the idea and comments. The up-front costs are already available. It's just a matter of whether or not there is a substantial interest between advertisers and readers to support the work effort necessary to do it and recoup each issue... and of course... a few more good ideas like yours!

I think we do need another steel guitar magazine since Steel Guitar World Magazine is gone. I wish there were more magazines about the beautiful steel guitar! There needs to be another steel guitar magazine! Brett Day, Emmons S-10

Thanks Mike,

How about an interview with you for an issue? Perhaps you would consider writing a column too?

Magazine,___no; but I sure would like to see a Steel Guitar Annual. I'm talking about a hard cover book that would sell for around $35 to $50.

It should tell about all the steel shows that took place during the year, have lots of color pictures and lots of colorful ads.

I believe lots of players would buy one of these and it would be more successful (which it must be to survive) to the publisher than a magazine.

I'm in, dude. What do you estimate the cost would be? Ain't that many steel players out there but I could deal with $5 or so a copy for a monthly.
