Day, because my first guitar was setup like that.
I find it easier to get on and off the b&c pedal because my foot is already at that angle. (1st pedal)
I play either ,but not too fast in the heat of the battle on the Emmons setup.

Whatever the final count is, it's only a count of the ones that replied here. And, there are more steelers that are not on-line than what is on here.

Nonetheless, it looks like Emmons is ahead. I'll add one more for the Emmons side.

Put me on the Emmons side too. Didn't we go through this a year or so ago? Seems like it came out to 8 or 9 to 1 in favor of the Emmons setup.

Emmons. I've never played a Day setup. Bud Carter, on his Ask Bud page, says that the Day setup would cause more cabinet drop. Comments?

Bud's theory is that since the A pedal is more toward the center of the guitar with the Day setup, it would put more force on the body.

Lately, we've been hearing other ideas such as changer shaft flex contributing to the drop, so cabinet drop isn't the only culprit.

BTW, a good way to test cabinet drop without involving the changer shaft is to step on C6 pedals 5&6 on a double neck and see how much the E9 strings drop.

Jim, the Day setup causing more "cabinet drop" was told to me by a Nashville builder, too.

..... really...is there just one set-up that can be attributed to each of them?

I was referring to the ABC floor pedal setup being Buddy Emmons, and CBA floor pedal setup being Jimmy Day. Simple?

I just went back and read through the whole thread. What caught my attention was that the statement of comfort or ease of use was mentioned by a lot of readers relating to which set up they preferred.

Could it be that there is something like left handed vs right handedness in the use of the pedal foot ?? Some say it is easier to rock one way while others prefer the opposite rotation. It also seems that the baseball term, switch hitter, also applies here since some have stated they can do it either way with ease while others are absolutely blown away in that attempt.

I'm certainly no physiologist or anything like that but I do sense something else at work (play ??) here !! I hope this is also; still On Topic........I also think we have players of Master Level Talent who use both of these set ups so it's not a one way street by any stretch of the imagination.

Regards, Paul

"Standard" Emmons all the way on my Mullen and my BMI. BUT! I always thought the Day split would be easier on the ankle!

Since I've learned Emmons setup, I guess I'll stick, but those "outside" rocks are tough for newer players. You gotta raise the A pedal height because your foot just doesn't want to go that way!

Serious question: How do DAY players get the same move we Emmons players get when we press the A pedal and the F knee (raising the E's)? Since I've got the E raise on LKL it's real simple to stomp on the A pedal and slam the LKL knee - move up 3 frets and have the upper inversion (then "shiver gliss" back down - oh yes!)

Best, -Dave
