These true "musician" stories we are posting are great. Here's something to think about. Could be as wild as Slim Idaho's steel work as well as a stupid idea. What do you think about it? If it's dumb or out of line, let me know.

We set up a repository somewhere and accumulate as many true funny stories as we can jointly come up with about things that happened on a gig, on the road, etc. They could be about musicians in general, but with an emphasis on steeler stories. I'm sure we old guys have a million. You younger steel players can probably come up with some good ones, too.

After we have exhausted our memories, we could publish it as a book. If none of the publishing houses are interested, we could self-publish it through one of the Vanity publishing houses. If there are not enough of us interested in backing it financially, we could publish it as an ebook.

We would need some rules and guidelines to keep it clean and screen out any personal insults, etc. We could set up a committee for purpose of screening and approving submittals. It shouldn't be a burden to anyone, as there is no need to set a schedule or deadline.

The worst case outcome would be a failed effort to publish and a collection of funny stories we, ourselves, could enjoy.

This could accomplish two things: (1) it could give us something fun to do; and (2) we could let the proceeds go to the forum, as I'm sure Bobby could use the help.

If this would eat up too much disk space on the forum server, I could host it on my computer; I have huge amounts of space left.

How about posting some responses on this thread. You may have some better ideas or some modifications to suggest. As I said, if the idea is all wet, or if this is something that has already been done (either successfully or unsuccessfully) let me know and I will shut up.

Roy, I used to have a page on my website called "RUMINATIONS" that contained many of those stories.

I might rescue some of them from obscurity if your idea becomes popular! www.genejones.com

Roy: In the BAR CHATTER ARCHIVES on page 41 there is a thread similar to your idea about the Funniest Things That Happened To You While Playing.

Problem is, when I go there, it comes up on page 3 of 3 but when I try to get the other two pages to come up it goes to a thread titled Does Jerry Garcia Belong.....

It doesn't look as if I'm doing anything wrong but perhaps b0b or someone more familiar with this turf, could help us out.

As I recall there were some very funny things in that thread.

Regards, Paul

Jim, Gene, Paul:

Looks like no one but us is interested. Just thought it may be a way to develop some revenues for this great forum. I'll just try to send in a little donation from time to time.
