We will be playing on Uke Jackson's
Flaming Ukulele Radio Hour broadcast
on WNTI 91.9 FM in Hackettstown NJ
and streamed live http://www.wnti.org
Also, rebroadcast and streamed Thursday 5/12
midnight til 1 am Friday. The only all ukulele
music show on the planet.

I have to get a high speed internet connection ... my dial up kept "buffering" ... drove me nuts.

The show is available as an MP3 hereif anyone wants to hear it. I find the audio to be a little too hot, but I recorded the live stream and, while the bitrate is a lot lower, the distortion is not there. So, I'll put that version on my website soon enough.
It was a pretty good show.

| Agreed! Loved your solo on "I'm Pau" ... hot soloing but as Jeff said, letter perfect for the style. You somehow avoid the temptation to add bebop licks, blues cliche's, etc. where so many others (like me) sucumb. Thanks for the link! |

Those are some nice compliments, gentlemen. Thank you. And Jeff: Thanks for the compliment--it's means a lot. Those great players had such soul and musicality.
I must say that I don't really spend any time trying to copy any particular player, but dare I say that I'm trying for the same thing that they were: to be fresh, exciting and joyful in my playing. I just like to improvise as much as I can, and it's a challenge on an old Tricone--but I enjoy the hell out of it. It helps to listen to all those great horn players from that era: Teagarden, Bix, Johnny Dodds, Bunny Berigan, Adrian Rollini, the Dorseys, etc.

I believe I've mentioned this before. Mike's playing behind the vocals is spot on. He never plays more than he needs to and always has the right fill and phrase at the right time accentuating the music and vocals.
This is an art and discipline in itself, especially with some of the intricate vocals of Bliss & Carla.
I've seen the Moonlighters quite a few times (they may start charging me rent) and have really appreciated this area of Mike's expertise.[This message was edited by HowardR on 17 May 2005 at 01:14 PM.] |

thanks for posting the audio of your gigs Mike- I downloaded a previous one you posted and enjoyed the heck out of it- I was telling HowardR so when I saw him recently .
I'm downloading this one now from your website, and look forward to hearing it as well.
