I don't recognize this finish. Did earlier ones come in a natural tone?

I'd agree with Randy. Someone removed the finish entirely, and didn't put anything on it afterwards.

Ron,

Fender Stringmasters were issued in Blond, Walnut & Ebony. This D8 certainly is a 50's Stringmaster. Note the push button neck selector, the tweed case, the legs storage compartment in the upper half of the case. The wood should be Swamp Ash.

In the late, late 50's and into sixties, Fender went to the blade neck selector, co-co colored, tolex covered case, lower half of the case stored the guitar and legs...Butter scotch was added to the color option's.

Fender never deviated from the colors listed above on their Stringmaster product.

This D8 has had the original finish stripped off. It will need work to restore it to it's great Fender legacy.

Look's like the fret board and chrome will need attention. Can't tell about the electronics....Otherwise, it certainly is good candidate for refinishing and restoring....TX

rgds,
Ron

This guy obviously has no clue about Jerry. What planet does he live on ? Jerry seldom played Fenders except on very few occasions. That guitar looks to be refinished ... (?)
