When I first heard Joan play the steel, of course I had the "Ain't bad for a girl" opinion....but for about the last 3yrs I have seen her talent really go to the next level. Her tone, approax and just a professional attitude towards the steel guitar...well she doesn't have to take a backseat to anyone. There are 2 players who have put chills up my spine listening to them, Hal Rugg and Joan Cox...I happened to be sitting beside Johnny when that happened and we both caught it at the same time! I know there are many great players, and I appreciate all of you...especially the ones who interact with the forum. If you ever have a chance to listen to Joan play, I think you will be pleasantly entertained....and you really can't find a nicer person. (and she makes a great "nanner pudding")

I just heard from Joan and she is confirmed for the Gospel Show here in INDY next May. Hal is also confirmed. Pat, we are looking forward to you being here to plunk some bass and share in the fellowship. I hope Ron (your pastor) will be able to make it also. Gary Adams is planning on coming to be a part of Doug's set.
Can't wait!! It gets gooder and gooder all the time. WOW

That Joan Cox isn't just a gal she is a real sweetheart and a great player.

I thought she was good even back when she was "Not Bad for a Girl".

Better get the CD and find out for yourself.

Don't ya'll think old JC is playing better too since he married her.

Say Pat, I had the pleasure of seeing Joan for the first time about five years ago on the stage of the ISGA show. She was a wonder to behold even then. I have her tape and the new one with her and Johnny Cox, and it is a pleasure to listen to this talented lady and her husband play. When she played Beulah Land last year at the convention, it sent chills up my spine. I just love that song, and she did a bang up job on it.

By the way, I saw Albert yesterday. He played at a church here in Minneapolis, and he looks and sounds great.

Doug, I am looking forward to seeing you in St. Louis again, and maybe I'll have to come to Indy next year to see all of the great players you have on your show.

See you all in St. Louis.

Dennis

Many of us here in rural Missouri remember Joan starting out on steel guitar, having a dedication and commitment to the instrument that was close to an obsession. She always impressed me with improvments in her talent, and is a very quiet, sensitive, soft spoken person who is always more then happy to help someone else less talented.

Wow..I just got back to work today, and saw this..a nice way to start my day.. Seriously, thank you all so much! It's real easy to get frustrated over the way the music business is here in Nashville, and sometimes you get to feeling kinda low about your abilities, especially when you have a long dry spell between gigs. But I feel so blessed to have been invited to Indy next year, and to every steel guitar show. I don't want to sound mushy or anything (like a "girl") but I really appreciate you guy's compliments. Girl steel players are in the minority here (and everywhere)so if I do something that gets the attention of a guy player, I'm happy. Thank you Duane..we've been friends for many, many years..Louie and Dennis..see you guys in St. Louis, and Pat Coyne, you crazy guy, you're just wanting me to make more banana pudding.. Thanks for being "big brother" and for what you said. I think I better get to work; I feel like I'm at an awards show or something. Jack Heern..bet I know what you're gonna say when I see you in St. Louis..See you guys there..Johnny and I are planning on spending some "quality time" in some of the jam session rooms..Really looking forward to that. Thanks again..

Hi Bill..thanks..Johnny and I have talked about doing another CD of country stuff this time. We wanted our first one we did together to be a gospel CD. We're kinda looking at songs now. Maybe we can do it next year..Hope you can come to the Dallas show next year. I'm hoping we'll be there next year..maybe we can drag Pat along. I think there was maybe one or two flavors of that ice cream that we didn't get to try Hope you and Joyce are well.

I hate to admit it ...I have always been one of your greatest fans since I first heard you at St Charles Moose. Remember playing the red Genaric at Bobby's in Fairview Hgts ?
You put Lee into shock that day. After all, you weren't bad for a girl then either.
JP
BTW We had a shabby backup band that day.
Caldwell,Queen and Weaver..Ugh!!

Doug, is the Gary Adams you're talking about had out a song back in the early 60's called," I Just Lost My Favorite Girl. If he is, we used to travel with George Jones back then along with Georgie Riddle and Glen Davis and Jerry Starr. If so tell him hello for me.

Yes it is. He will be coming back to the GSGA show next May and will be playing with Jernigan and probably Hal Rugg also. He has a new gospel CD out. Can't wait to hear it.

Hi Jack..hope you're doing well..as usual, the little remarks are flying..if you didn't say that to me, I'd figure you were mad at me, so keep 'em coming..Yeah, I remember that deal at Bobby's..good grief, that was about a hundred years ago..no I think it was in '90 or '91. I got a video of that..too bad they couldn't get a good back-up band for us right? I remember the red Generic brand guitar..See you this weekend I hope. Hey, did your address change? We got the last newsletter returned for a wrong address..we'll have that issue and the new one at our table. Come by and see us.

Joan (& Johnny) did a GREAT job at the ISGA conv. At times,I had to look very hard to see who was playin' what. And the twin stuff they did was really neat. Joan,I'm glad to know that you're showin' Johnny all those hot licks.
