| If you missed the TV portion of the Opry tonight 6/29 you missed out of some fantastic steel guitar playing by two great players. Johnny Cox sounded so good on his Zoom behind Connie Smith. He was up in the mix, great clarity and a great tone. Johnny played flawless with perfect styling. Tommy just makes you float with his style and tone. He backed up Sonja Isaacs and his phrasing was more pleasing that her singing and she is a good singer. Too often we take steel players for granted and fail to let them know how good they sound and how much we appreciate listening to them. Johnny & Tommy, I thoroghly enjoyed both of you tonight and just wanted you both to know! |

| I met Tommy and Johnny back in 2000 when Tommy had some backstage passes for me to go to the Opry. I think Johnny was playing steel for Jim Ed Brown when I met him, but I can't remember. Peewee Rogers was there the same night He was there playing steel for "Little" Jimmy Dickens and Sonya Isaacs was there the same night, too. I know Johnny plays for Connie Smith now. Mike-When I saw Janice's post, that lineup looked good so I turned it on.
I am glad I did. I will agree with you that Johnny and Tommy were great, and up front in the mix.
Connie was great as usual and she mentioned Johnny' name twice and he even got some applause. A good night for Steel Guitar....al  |

| You're right, my good friend Doyle was super tonight. At his concerts the "Chet" thing as he calls it, is the best thing he does and he also has played some great Chet things in my home on all of my guitars, Gary. |

In addition to the above commets, I thought the "New kid" that called his Dad out to sing the California Blues was good. He also had a good Steeler. Loved his blues Dobro work on Cal. Blues. Didn't (couldn't) recognize him.

It was a great night for steel and in general, a very very good show. I enjoyed all of it, well, except for the moron blonde (she is cute though). Fortunately, I recorded this one as it is a keeper.
Sonya Isaacs, WOW!! I never heard her before and I like what she did a lot. Gorgeous lady too.
Connie Smith. No words to describe how much I love her. Another beautiful woman also.
What a great night for beautiful TALENTED women.
Doyle Dykes had me sitting on the edge of my chair. GREAT!!
Brad Martin, good voice, good songs. Dad actually sang better IMHO. Who was his steel player?

| The Opry was a very good last night for some wonderful steel playing! The great Tommy White was super as ususal and then Johnny Cox just played incredible!!! Johnny's tone on the Zum was so clear and sweet. I agree that Connie Smith did a wondeful job of mentioning the steel playing of Johnny Cox. The sound man and camera man did a super job of having Johhny's steel up in the mix and following him several time with the camera. |

The steel playing was great, but Doyle Dykes was the highlight for me. I am a dyed-in-the-wool Chet Atkins fan, and he brought tears to my eyes with the Chet medley and the picture of Chet in the background.

Simply a great all around show..The futures in good hands with that Martin kid,he flat out sings great with excellent voice control. The Father reminded me a little of the HAG. Bet he eats up the Hag stuff...."Dumpling" was super and TW well we all know what to expect.Hey Little "Porter" Dickens band honks don't it?Jimmy still does a credible job.Ain't Viagra great stuff?

| Johnny Cox did such a great job! Of course,Tommy did his usual super job! As usual, some great music was left out of the tv segment while the lady interviews someone- this week they didn,t show Jimmy do one of his great classic songs, " Shopping for dresses "- Mr. Rogers did an excellent job on this number-wish the folks watching the tv segment could have seen this performance. They also didn,t show Sonya do a song from her last cd-it had more steel than the ones she did in the tv portion. A great night for steel! Kenny, thanks for mentioning Rick Wright, I had wondered who he was, he did a fine job. |

As has been stated on this forum,
"Connie Smith IS the steel guitar's sweetheart."
No truer words were ever spoken. She loves it, she digs it, she honors it AND the players; and she makes NO bones about it.
And what an adorable woman she is. Marty Stuart is one lucky man. I suppose she ranks as one of the all time sweethearts among female country singers. NO body can do what she does.
She, along with Jeannie Sealey, have the awesome talent of tearing at one's very soul when they sing a song.
I say bravo to Connie Smith and the steel guitar. They go together like a custom fitted glove.

I thought all was good and I was also pleasantly surprised by the Martin Kid. But I will have to admit, when he brought Dad out there, I called the family into the room to hear that guy.
Joe, he reminded me of the Hag too. Not that he sounded so much like him, but he had that "smooth" sound the Hag had in his earlier years. Maybe SOMEBODY will sign Dad Martin up soon!

| I saw the rerun of the Opry on Sunday morning and it really was one of the better shows. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the steel guitarist behind the young man and his father was the one and only Terry Crisp. What a night for the steel guitar and what else can be said about Doyle Dykes. |
