I'm going to Nashville over the 4th of July weekend. What or who should I go see? I know you guys would have some suggestions. You know everything about Nashville and steel guitars.

I've been down to Old Broadway on tour, but have never had the chance to check anything else out. Good steel guitar stores? Museums? Hidden historic clubs or local haunts? Any local musicians I should check out? I know of the obvious things like the Oprey and Hall of Fame Museum. What else?

I'm staying at the Drake Inn for starters. How's that?

Solomon, be sure to contact Bobbe Seymour and go visit him in his store about 15 minutes out of town. Also Lower Broadway, all the Live Music starts at 2:00 in the afternoon, all clubs, You will find some very fine players. Legends Corner did feature John Hughy on Saturday from 6 to 10, you may want to check that out . Also across from the Opry house is the Nashville Palace, Mike Sweeney is there and that is one fine band and he is one fine player..

What does your name imply Damir? Dumber? Ignorant?

I guess the saying about people "SEEING WHAT THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH, RELATE TO MOST, or WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE" goes without saying in this post of yours:
Quote:
if you`re looking for some dope or transvestite`s you can`t go wrong with that place
but, I think some of the zillions of players who have survived from this gig (which incidentally, has payed the highest pay - even more than the Nashville Palace - for the past nearly 20 years since I have been playing professionally in this town) well... let's just say those "steel playing survivors" might give you a REAL STEEL player HANDSHAKE you won't forget - ever - when they meet you!!!!!!! Just might not have any feeling left in your fingers when they are through is all... He he he Get it ??? I can't seem to find your telephone number in the local phonebook - nor does anyone I have called who has played here for those same 20+ years know it either... Can't seem to find anyone who even says they know you [I am perplexed now!] I wonder just who might have your number??? or know how I might contact you???

Incidentally, BobBE SEENmore has played with this band - and kissed them all on the face - telling them how wonderful they were to play with when they took the first break! And your pal Smiley has played here before - and I actually replaced your friend Larry with this same band doing the Sunday gig.

But, I guess if your mind is elsewhere... well.. like I said. I do look forward to meeting you in person though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, be sure to wear your gloves ...your "welder's gloves!"

Terry, Mr. Damir is from Croatia. I'm not sure how long he has been in the country.Last year when Murphy was playing with us at the Long Hollow Jamboree, Damir came out a few times to hear Murph play.I didn't know him either until he showed up at the Hollow. When Murph left to go to work with the Wheel, Damir hasn't been back... BTW Ron Hogan does a fine job on steel since Jim left.

Hi Earl,

Thanks for the info -

I still say though, ignorance is no excuse, just like I have heard said to me! I hold my family/morals higher than anything in life, and it is a bit on the "lowwwww" side to slam anyone trying to make a living. Especially, when it is actually slandering innocent folks! I haven't witnessed any of the things (not even resembling - such nonsense) as what was implied by this "jerko statement" about this gig or its surroundings. It happens to be right up interstate I-65 one exit from the club he mentions. I think he should get the facts straight - Gabe's is where you might find a doper or two - as I have seen. The other, ...well I can't fathom what sort of "crowd" he hangs with to even "blither such tones from a mouth."

Now, (on another note) I'd love to hear Ron Hogan again. It's been many years since the last time... too long When would that be happening?

Terry, I'm happy you are doing well. Ron Hogan and I are playing at the Long Hollow Jamboree on Sat. nights from 7:30 to 11:00. The place is on Long Hollow Pike north about 5 miles from I-65 going toward Gallatin on the left...you can't miss it. Jan Jones is playing drums with us too. He's the band leader. Go to the back door so you won't have to pay at the door.

Terry,
It's very easy to contact Mr. Besic. Just look at the top of his posting,& you'll see,
"Profile", or "send email". Either way,you may contact him,by clicking on one or the other. May I suggest "profile" first,so you may get TOTAL info on him.

Thanks for the invite Earl! Love to venture out that way to hear you I know it would be well worth it anytime! I used to visit there years ago when D.Marrs played with Bob Saxton. Loved pickin' with 'em too!

...and thanks for the info Smileey,
But... I have had a PC (personal computer) since before I got my first steel (I thought you said you read my book ), and I know about those "little blue letters with the underlines" dah.. Been there/done that. No contact whatsoever - (but I did find a link to a picture of one of my old D-10 steels. He had a page with players and even mentioned my name credit along with the new owner playing my old blue Zum.)

But, what kind of person slams another players gig??????? Telling folks where to come hear a fellow SGF steel player (myself) in a well-known historical night club didn't seem to be asking for that response - or do you think it did Mr. S.R.? Ooops!!! I'd better watch out or I might step on some of gNashville's "larger than life" ego's

Hmmm... who all'd that include?

[I'm not mad - but I can certainly voice my opinion - as well as anyone else... right?]

Dam, I don't remember reading anything about breaking fingers. I'm sure if you guys met and got to know each other you could become good friends. Lets take a step back and let this sore heal.
For those that have been in town as long as I have know that some of the best playin' joints in town were not in not so nice parts of town. Does the Dog House Bar on lower Dickerson Rd.ring any bells? I know 2 great guitar players that used to play there in the late 70's. I won't mention their names because I don't know if they want that info made public. We all have been there done that during the lean years.

[I must say Damir... we sure had 'em going huh? Truthfully, if I had gone through what you had endured while living on Dickerson Road (the other end) I would see RED FLAGS FLYING EVERYWHERE at the first mention of it too!] Anyway, he and I are friends... and the joke's on everyone else! He he he! But, we will be facing off in person - at - The Starlight Club - yes - on Dickerson Road - also a former home of Steel Guitar Nashville - Hmmm Maybe that's where he saw those dopy transmitters or whatever - So... we'll both be breaking anyone's fingers who comes out to Dickerson Road on any Sunday that claims the play steel! 'er something like that.

Damir,

Ya think bobBE SEENmore will come? I guess if it included him holding the money he'd surely be there - in full color

If Smiley'd wear his "Smiley's" that'd draw a crowd of pluckers hey?

and Earl I promised not to tell anyone you broke my nose, now why'd you have to go and spoil that perfectly kept secret I stayed silent about all these years That was on a Nashville Weekend too... or 2. (takes up less characters the second way ) he he he

there waws not itention from my side to offend anyone.I was reffering to the LOWER part of the Dickerson rd. (between Briley Pkwy and down town Nashville)where I lived for one year. One time I walked to the grocerie store and in 10 min ren into 3 different drug dealers (in the middle of the day) offering me drugs. That was a place where I could`t sleep at night, from all the police lights flashing surounding the neighbourhood I lived in.Shootings and homocides at all the time.We had bars on the windows that made me feel like I`m inmate in correctional institution. After all, we got avicted by the sherrif (he put me on my front loan with all my stuff i caould take it out of the house)because the land lord we were paying rent to wasn`t paying his bank,so they decidded to kick us out of the house even tho we payed every month rent on time.I don`t wont this to be taken as a attack on any clubs or players. One of my dearest momeries are from my days at the Long Hollow Jamboore, where I played with Vassar Clements,Big Jim,Bob Saxton and the guys. And as soon as I saw their names mentiond here I realized that I made a mistake. So I appologize to everyone about what I said.Terry is a great guy and even tho we started wrong, this may be a begining of a good friendship.

I have to say my apologies as well. Damir was going to go along with this like a joke, but the truth is, he is a wonderful fellow, and has been through a nightmare on dickerson st!(Road) I should have perhaps said my piece in a more acceptable tone than I did. And... maybe a few other words would have sounded differently than they did. I actually have a new friend (strange how we meet friends, huh?) now because of a misunderstanding I have a new friend (who reminds me more of a brother) whom I would not have possibly met through it. I think I speak for both of us when I say we were kind-of having fun! Hope nobody took offense to it... and we really do hope to see ALL OF YOU at the club.

Smiley called and said he might come out this weekend (and I really meant no harm to Smiley - or anyone - really) but I am insisting he bring his steel and play with us too!

...Now to just rope bobBE in!

You can collect the money bobBE!!!
So ya coming?
