DY is coming to the House of Blues New Orleans, just wondering if he still carries a PSGer w/ him on tour. I emailed Steve Morse, but never heard back. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Can't answer your question but you got the wrong Morse. Gary is your man.
A Morse is a Morse, of course, of course.....oh, sorry, that was Mr. Ed Morse.

Steve Morse is touring with Deep Purple. I don't think they have a steel player.

No, that's the steel STRING guitar -- same as Charlie Manson plays.

Ya know!!!! I was thinking I had the wrong first name when I posted that. By the way, STEVE Morse is a monster Guitar player, and from what I have read about him, he could probably play the PSG pretty well if he tried!

Thanks!!!

OK since you uys brought DeeP Purple up, I have to let you know my all time best misunderstood lyric story.

When I was a little kid, my metal head older brother used to play Space Truckin BY DEEP PURPLE, but I thought they were saying Space Monkey. I used to dance around screaming "Come On!......Come on!.... Come on!,,,,,,,,, Lets go, Space Monkee......Come On!!!!!

LISTEN TO IT SOMETIME AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND MY CONFUSION!!!!!

Steve Morse is an amazing cat, like Jeff Baxter.

In the mid-80's, Steve did an in-store seminar at the music store I worked for, and after the event, he mentioned that he wanted to become an airline pilot. I thought "yeah, sure..." Guess what? He went to flight school, became an airline pilot, and flew passenger airliners for a few years. How does one go from being a rock star, to a pilot, then back to a rock star? It's all some folks can do just to perform ONE of those professions!

Skunk Baxter, on the other hand, who's been a star guitarist for about 35 years, recently got hired by the DOD to work on Missle Defense Systems! If I'm not mistaken, those are jobs usually held by high level military and PhD's in physics and engineering from major universities, not former members of the Doobie Brothers, ferchrissakes!!!!!!!!

Yes, Gary Morse is a fine person and musician. He was able to get me tickets/backstage when they did a show in the Twin Cities last year. My wife & I had a great date me being the Dwight fan I am. You won't be disappointed.

Some steel players get big heads and forget where they came from once they arrive. They ignore other steel players and become egotists. Gary Morse is a musician's musician. He is always ready to talk steel with another steel player and he is a fabulous steel player to boot! A rare combination. If you get a chance go see him with Dwight Yoakam. You will hear Sho-Bud steel guitar at it's best.

Careful Herb, you're beginning to sound like Paul Begala. Just because Skunk is a brilliant mathamatician doesn't mean he can't be a monster guitar player as well (hear the solos on My Old School by Steelely Dan) he is also a fair pedal steeler and did the Steel parts on the early Steeley Dan albums

Jeff Baxter on the guitar solo on "My Old School" is smooookin'.

He also plays PSG on "Pearl of the Quarter" off the same record (Countdown to Ectasy) and is it sweet! One of my favorite steel players.

Skunk's solo on Steely Dan's "Fire in the Hole" described in the liner notes as displaying "the cunning of the insane on pedal steel" is one of my fave solos.
