Until I have the scratch for a Weissenborn-type guitar or another lap steel, I thought I'd put an extention nut on an old Harmony acoustic I use for slide playing. For C6 tuning, what gauge strings would you suggest? And from standard tuning, which way to you go for each string? (Sharp or flat?)
This is all new to me so please excuse the newbie questions.
Thanks!

Paul, try these gauges:

E - .015
C - .017
A - .020
G - .024W
E - .030
C - .036

From standard guitar tuning, you would raise the pitch of each string except for the high E which stays the same.
You can also raise the low C to C# to get C6/A7 tuning.

b0b has sets of Jagwire strings for C6 and A6 tuning in these gauges at a very reasonable price.

When I put a nut lifter on a Washburn acoustic when starting out a while back, it seemed the bridge needed to be lifted higher to get the strings off the fretboard a little. I'm thinking about trying it again but adding a bridge blank underneath to accomplish this

The neck on this Harmony needs a reset if it's to be used as a regular guitar, so the action is high already. That's why I use it for bottleneck. Raising the strings at the nut should get it about right.
Thanks for the info on the strings.
