The D&D on 51st in West Nashville. They had a recreation of the final conflict at the Alamo a few weeks ago in the parking lot. So it's an interesting place...

I'll be playing with MJ Bishop, a singer/songwriter gal and her bass player plus another vocalist at Uncommon Grounds, a cafe in Seattle:
http://www.uncommongroundscafe.net/

Kind of a different gig: all acoustic (and no drums Sad ) in a cafe/wine bar setting. About as far from a honky tonk as you can get!

For this gig, I'll be playing my RQ Jones dobro, and maybe get to try out my (new to me) Marrs Cat Can, too.

Joe,s Bar in Jackson, Ms Friday and Saturday night.

It's a red neck joint with a lot of over weight women in need of some dental work and lots of men in about the same shape.

I'm there every weekend....for what it's worth.....

Talent (maybe?), great equipment, a burning desire, fantabulous looks and a great personality, swavee and deboner......and I'm still left at home with little more to do than look out the window and watch the paint fading on my nabor's garage. Oh well......
In this area, I DOOOOO believe, that any number of local group leaders would rather have an inept, out of tune bungler, than a skilled and experienced, dedicated musician on steel guitar.

My band, The Atomics, -- a four-piece combo (including me on steel and guitar), recorded a synopsis of my album, The Doctor of Steel, for a Cable Network last night. My album is doing quite well--much better than I thought with inquiries from overseas; you can hear a 1min 38sec sample at www.steelguitarbyhughjeffreys.com. Best, Hugh

Boy Dr. HJ, that is a VERY COOL lil lick you do on about 28.5seconds into that sample! Sounds like a variation at about 1:22 seconds! Nice -

God Bless

I was fightin' the flu for most of last week but I managed to drag my sorry butt on stage for our Saturday gig. We shared a bill with Eric Heatherly and Mark Chesnutt at the Las Colinas Equestrian Center in Irving Texas. It was a fun gig and I got a chance to talk "shop" with Slim Yamaguchi (sp), Mark's steel picker. BTW: According to Mark, we've got the most "redneck" tour bus out there cause we padlock our door (none o' those fancy pushbutton locks for us). Guess he didn't notice the "Silver Eagle" emblem mounted on the "rebel" flag Ya' oughta see the looks we get when we change the name on front to read "Milli Vinilli" or "Britany Spears"

Keep on pickin'!
Glenn

Glenn, Sorry you weren't feeling well last week, though I did profit from your misery - I had fun filling in for you Friday night at Midnight Rodeo(interesting visitors on the redneck bus ), but next time make it a better excuse than the flu. Usually you figure out which gig is going to be lame, then get me to do it. It was nice playing for a crowd for a change. BTW, I'm not playing anywhere Saturday night - how you feeling this week?

Arty
