Okay, I made a terrible post which I regret.

Let me say this, that anyone who dedicates their lives to creating wonderful instruments for our enjoyment should be saluted and commended.

3 cheers for lap steel luthiers.

C'mon, Bill -- we both know that there are some that should be put in a burlap sack and beaten with a bat!

It's just that lumping them all together -- pro or con -- is a bad idea.

When you made your previous comments you were suffering from "temporary insanity," brought on by the arrival of your new MSA. We've all been there, so don't feel too bad about it ...

What Ed said.

Remember the motto & creed of The French Foreign Legion....

"You can live down anything but death"

and it also applied to my last girlfriend...

"You can live down anything but Beth" !

Anyhow check this out.....

This sorta reminds me of a Johnny Winter album from long ago. Side B, the first 2 songs were
1."I Love Everybody"
2."I Hate Everybody"

I totally get it. People who build steels are amazing, but they're human - so you get some flakes, or maybe they just have bad days and let you down.
Maybe you should never buy a guitar that was made on Friday . .

Bill, in any case I don't think your dichotomy is contradictory. It's just life as we know it. So rave on bro!

Gregg, I built my first guitar in just 1 Friday. I was 9 years old and I made it out of a shoe box, tp roll and elastic bands. I used scotch tape for the tuners. Man, I wish I still had that axe! But who knew?!?

I never built another one after that - I leave that to the experts such as yourself. I just play 'em . .

I have played music for 52 years and guitar for 47 years; repaired, fabricated and done custom work for 37 years; played Steel for 12 years; been a multi-medium artist for 53 years; and a "zillion" things trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up; and have been quite eccentric for all but the first 2 of my 58 years. And ever since I gave 5 years of my life BLINDLY / STUPIDLY working for the MIC neo-cons' heroin cartel in Southeast Asia (whom I abhore) ....I have been a real butt-hole (PTSD) more times than I like. I have posted things on the SGF that first seemed appropriate but rather quickly realized it probably wasn't and retracted it by editing usually with an apology or similar comment.

WELCOME TO THE ECCENTRIC BUTTS CLUB.

Aloha,
DT~

You know, Bill, it's just the nature of the internet. I've gotten into email squabbles with old friends, and only because we couldn't see each other's facial expressions, like 'tongues in cheek'. It's a cold medium. These things are eventually resolved.

Charlie,
Good point with the facial expressions. Tone of voice is something else that is missing via email and posting. Sarcasam is also a tough one to pull off.
