Hello,
I'm making my yearly search for a steel instructor in Northern California, esp. the bay area, though at this point I'd be willing to even drive to Bakersfield a few times a year to get a good fill of inspiration, tips, and techniques!
There are some fine fine players close by but they're busy with their own playing and can't really spend time guiding the musical development of a relentless amateur such as myself.
Also interested in anyone who's had a good experience with mail-order courses.
Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
I'm not that master player/teacher you're looking for, but I do live close by to you, and I have some ideas that may be helpful. I'm leaving for Reno in a couple of hours, but I'll send you an email next week. -- Marc |

I took lessons from "Pudgy" (Duane) Wong about 10 years ago at Music Works in ElCerrito on San Pablo Ave. I think they're still there. He's the owner. He doesn't do C6 but he'll get you started on E9.
Good Luck, DZ |

I can vouch for David. I've had two lessons from him, and the pointers he's given me have made a big difference. A master of the Universal, he can also play my MSA U12 like nobody's business, even though the copedent is quite different from his Sierras. |

Andrew, if I lived in your area I'd look up Bobby Black to see if he accepts students. He's a monster of nonpedal as well as pedal. [This message was edited by Steven Welborn on 15 February 2002 at 11:41 AM.] |

How about instructors here in southern California besides Blackie Taylor?
Especially in the Orange County area.
Bakersfield is still too far for me. |

Andrew, Pete Grant in Auburn CA may still teach. I communicated with him a few years back and thought about taking a few extended lessons. http://www.petegrant.com/flash_music.html
