kind of dumb question but im just wondering what you guys wear while playing, i need to go too a boot if i can ever find one that dont kill my feet, well anyway lets see what we come up with. thanks Joe

| I mostly wear cowboy boots (about all I own)but have recently started wearing the western style lace-ups that are becoming popular. For those not used to the boot this may be a good alternative as you can buy them in a dress (soft leather) or work style w/ heavy sole. |

I'd say the most comfortable boots I've got are my Aggie Senior Boots. Unfortunately, there's a 3 year waiting list, and they cost around 900 bucks. The low heel helps out tall guys like me fit under a cabinet and still be able to move around. But I'd say (owning just about every other kind of boot) that for comfort, I wear the lace-up Justin Work-Boots. Nice comfortable fit, and a cushioned sole. They'll cost you right at $130, and they'll last you just this side of forever, whether it's just kicking around or doin hard labor. I think you add $10 for the steel-toed variety, which helps if the legs on your steel aren't screwed in too well. Just my $0.02, and that part's free.

I've got some "well broken in" Nacona boots that I've used for years. They are calf leather and soft (and pointy toed). I wore them when I was working, even with suits, and not that I'm retired they are mostly relegated as my "pickin" boots.
But, when it comes to pedal steel, I can play in almost any type of shoe and don't have a problem like many that have to have a certain kind of shoe to play in.

I figured this was ask, but i was going to be in the market for some boots just for playing steel. although for years Ive been using just what ever was on my feet its hard to lean away from the B pedal with a thick sole. thanks guys Joe

I always kick off my left shoe while playing - I just don't feel comfortable playing in any kind of shoe. I need to be "in touch with" the pedals. Right foot doesn't really matter...

| I wear soft soled mocassins. They provide all the flexability of playing barefoot, but cushion the foot just enough to take away all the oversensitivity. |

I prefer western boots with the pointed toe. I wear them in winter up here on the mtn to keep my ankles warm.
I used to have a pair of Hush Puppies I liked real good, but they got to looking real shaby and I couldn't wear em out. Finally had to take em out to the dog pound and had them put to sleep.

Mike Weirauch.... You ain't trueful,I've seen you play. I've got photos to prove it. You wear black shoes. 
Your playing is tops even if you wore only a toe ring.
I use a comfortable pair of shoes. Tried the cowboy boots,a total train-wreck. Then told the group "If you want me,You get me,not some $300.00 fake snake-skin boot. Now take it or leave it"
I'm still playing with them. Of course, the trainwrecks are still happin'.

Because of my short legs....I took a cue from an earlier post by one of our most distinguised senior Forumites and now wear two RIGHT shoes; K-mart Blue Light Special..at only $9.50 for a size 8-Wide. The soft imitation leather provides all the flexibility one needs and the velcroe straps loosen up during the evening so that one's swelling ankles and feet are not crimped into a restrictive or tight shoe.
The right shoe on my left foot allows me to reach both the E9th A & B pedals without producing a hernia causing stretch.
Gadd! Ain't steel playing wonderful? It allows so much creativity and versatility! And without b0b's Forum, where could we get this kinda inside information on foot wear worn by America's greatest pickers. |
