My little wife and I just returned from an evening out at Jubitz' Ponderosa Lounge where we enjoyed an evening of listening to one of Portland's finest steel pickers...Mr. Larry Behm at the Emmons. Fine technique; great speed picker and all with a supurb tone and execution. If you're in the Portland area Saturday night, you might want to stop and give Larry a listen! Great musician and nice guy too! The band is X-Roads. |

Hey Ray.
You are right.
Larry is a great picker and a nice guy.
I met Larry in the early 70's when I worked for Sho-Bud.
Got to see him and his Wife in St Louis in 2000, stopped in one of the rooms and listened to him pick.
Larry keep up the good work.
Jimmy

Ray I learned everything about tone from YOU.
Thanks for the kind words. I am very lucky to have so many great steel guitar buddies and a great band that lets me play, it is a steelers dream job.

The late Danny Shields had nothing but praise about your tone and great pickin', Larry. Danny never said anything about a steeler unless he was GOOD.
Someday when I'm out your way, I'll look you up. I'd like to hear you play.

Ray,
I live about 40 min south of Larry. I have heard him play at his home. He has an awesome tone. One of the cleanest around. He taught me some stuff to get started on. The basics. Larry is genuine. You can hear it in his playing and when he talks to you. I hope to be spending more time with him in the spring. My schedule at work and home leaves little time. I'm excited to hear him on his all pull emmonds. Thanks again Larry dear friend.

Larry is indeed a fine player and great guy! He's the captain Kirk of Tone Trek's Enterprise. If you pass through Portland Oregon, check where his group is playing. The name of the group is Cross Country and usually plays at Jubitz or Mr. B's; the 2 big rooms in the Portland area. |

There are so few of us in the Northwest, it is indeed an honor to have a player like Larry around. A great guy and a beautiful player.

Thanks guys for the nice comments, but being nice is easy when you surround yourself with OTHER nice people like ya'll.
When I listen close, I feel my playing may be overrated, my focus is on tone, clean blocking and expression and the licks fall where they may. But maybe this is what others like when they hear me, if so, thanks for listening.
