I was recently asked,"What is that board with the wires hanging down?" Hiding a smile as well as I could, I explained that it is a pedal steel guitar, and proceeded with a demonstration. I am saving this in my file of jokes.
What other hilarious questions have you people been asked? How do you answer them? Are you normally able to be serious?

Reece told me that once as he was setting up his MSA, some other musicians were giving him the funny look as if to say; What the heck is that thing. When he finished and sat it right side up on the floor, one of them said: Oh it's a guitar...I thought he was going to play the underside of it.....
DuhhhhRegards, Paul |

Of all the ones I've ever heard, DVA's is still the classic...(when someone asked him if his "double-decker table slide" was an "Emmison", or a "Show~Boat") |

Buzz Evans told me that once while setting up to play a gig with a rock band the club owner came over and said, "What is that". Buzz replied, "A steel guitar". The club owner said, "I know what it is. I meant 'What the hell is it doing on my bandstand'"??
I'd bet that after hearing Buzz play that clubowner never asked another steel player that question.
