They came...they twanged...they banged...they kicked Hollywood in the ***! Thank you Pete Burak for the heads-up on this tour. It features Hightone artists Joe Goldmark on steel (Zumsteel double neck), Bill Kirchen, Redd Volkaert and Dallas Wayne (all on teles). Not only is the pickin' as hot as it gets, the vocals are pure honkytonk, truck-driving, crying in your beer, swingin'and string bending heaven. Redd in particular has one of the best voices ever and Bill Kirchen and Dallas Wayne were great. Even Joe Goldmark, the drummer and bass player all had a shot at singing lead. Local hotshot, Deke Dikerson sat in for a couple of numbers. An inspiring night and definitely worth negotiating the Hollywood Blvd. weirdness. They are headed to Phoenix and points east. Catch them if you can. I think there are about 20 dates or so left on the tour. Check your local press for details or maybe Hightone's website.
Haere mai,
Steve H.

I'll second that, Steve! The band is unbelievably tight, and nothing less than amazing! A tight rythm section that cooks! Total pros! What a great show! Don't miss this one!

I'll third it. The band was outstanding. Redd Volkaert (who is even fatter and uglier than I am) is simply amazing, and Joe was simply wonderful. He played on both necks, and did an admirable job on both. Anybody who has heard any of Joe's recordings knows he's very good, but even so I was unprepared for just how good he is live.

Steve and Stan, it's too bad we didn't meet. Perhaps next time there is an event we should try to organize somethiing.

BTW John McClung (another great player who deserves more recognition that he has received) was also there.
