I wish him a fast recovery! I just read yesterday that Bill is actually from my hometown Cologne, Germany. Bill, if you read this: Ne kölsche jung, watt willste maaache...
Ich hoffe, Du kommst schnell wieder auf die Beine. Im Magazin Gitarre&Bass stand neulich ein Artikel über einen Sammler deutscher E-Gitarren, der erwähnte, das Du ursprünglich aus Köln kommst.
Alles Gute, Martin

It's just little ol' me here, Becky Lawrence!
(I can't believe after all these years following this wonderful forum I've never registered under my own name. Shame on me!)
Really, this has been the most dramatic event for Bill - and me too. Bill was considered legally blind in his right eye for many years. His left eye was in excellent shape until about two and half years ago, and with the vision decreasing in his left eye, he struggled. Bill couldn't recognize familiar faces, even at short distances. He still amazed me, though, with that poor vision doing the most precision work! He always taught me that you gotta have that feel, and I think Bill proved his case personally.
The next day after the eye surgery, the doctor examined him, and he said Bill had 20/25 vision in his right eye ( remember, this was his blind eye!) and it will continue to improve as the eye heals. I got the sweetest e-mail from Ernie Renn and responded to him that at this rate, Bill will end up with X-ray vision. Ernie wrote back and told me to be sure to get him his Superman t-shirt if the X-ray vision develops! Sometimes I think he's already Superman, at least in my book.
Thanks everybody for all the kind comments. I printed it out for Bill to read and it pleased him immensely ( Martin, Bill said you even wrote your note in Cologne dialect! He says in response, "Alles juhte vun en ahl nuehmahts krahd.").
Believe me, this place is one of our favorite Internet hang-outs because of you!
Cheers,
Becky Lawrence [This message was edited by Bill Lawrence on 22 August 2001 at 05:36 PM.] |

I recall listening to a tape of a gig in Nashville after the show. It was Lenny Breau's gig, with Lenny, Bucky Barrett and Bill on guitars, Jimmy Bryant on fiddle and Dick Cotten (his tape of the gig) on bass. Pretty fast company to be picking with. Anyhow, they played "Misty" and as we sat there listening, one solo made us go, "Whoa, who was that?" It took us a minute to figure out it was Bill. So, not only does he provide great electronics and such, he can more than hold his own picking with some very hot players.

Hi Becky and Bill:
I send you all the best wishes for continued improvement for Bill's eyes.
And I just have to tell you that the pickup Bill made for my prototype 14 string EXCEL has the best sound and response of any pickup I have ever used. Thanks for this.
Hope to really SEE you in St. Louis.
