Bill,
CDNow has a Bear Family box set of Pee Wee King on their website that credits Charles Adams as playing steel.

Bill; In the now closed Forum, Bar Chatter you can find a thread titled: Who Played Steel On Slow Poke. It started on 19 Mar 2001 and should provide you with a lot of additional reading.

Regards, Paul

The one I remember was Bobby Koefer. (who should've been in the S.G.H.O.F. a LONG time ago.) Bobby's,now, workin' w/ the Texas Playboys, when they work.

Hi, I am just looking in the book that follow the CD Box from Bear Family. Following steel pickers played on the early records with Pee Wee King: Don Davis 1946, Roy Jewell Ayres 1947-50, Doug Oldham 1951, Chuck Wiggins 1951, Bob Koefer 1952-55, Jack Bengle 1955 and Charles Adams 1956. It is a great book with a lot of pictures and there is 151 songs on the CD´s. GREAT music!!

I talked to Koefer on the phone just recently. He said as long as they keep sending him plain tickets, he will keep playing with the playboys. He and his wife now live in Bend, Or. He goes to Az. in the winter and works down there with some band.
