The only lacquered steel I have ever owned was a Sho-Bud..And I think most of them were finished that way..They still have a reputation for being some of the best sounding PSG's out there..

I don't want to zap anyone's sale, but I've always played laminate covered steels. I like the wearability of the laminate compared to the more fragile "wood" bodies.
The tone of the woods vs laminate cover is in the ear of the person listening.
Buddy has played laminate covered steels for many years. Is his tone bad???

Jack, your right about BE's tone. But Lloyd played lacquer and his tone was pretty good also Maybe it was due to the Sho-Bud LDG's green finish?

I've got a birdseye Maple Sho~Bud,hey I love formica,it's hard to beat in the kitchen,if there's a diference in sustain,I can't hear it.Lacquer over birdseye is a pretty hard finish......Pete Drake said he did'nt like counter top guitars,...As far as looks,,I have to agree with him.......... |

The solid wood just sounds better to me, especially birdseye maple. I guess we all hear different. |

I've got some old push/pulls that are
both mica & lacquer. Each one has it's
own character, but they all sound great.
It's really tough to say that one absolutely
sounds "better" than the other.

Since it's about instruments, not players, I'm moving this to the Pedal Steel forum. |
