Guys,
First let me wish all of you a joyful and happy 4th. Now, since I haven't started a post in some time, I was just sitting around reminiscing about some of the pickers that have gone on, especially recently. WOW! what a band they must have up there right now. Let's have a fun thread and remember some of the great, (and maybe not so grear) ones that have gone.
What would your heavenly band consist of? With my limited memory since heart surgery, I'l try to start it out.
Twin Steels -Jimmy Day & Curly Chalker
Twin leads - Chet & Roy

I'm really at a loss right now memory wise so help me out, some of you other members of the "Old F@rts Club" Who would your heavenly band consist of?

Let's have fun with this one guys and remember some of our favorites.

WHO'LL BE FIRST?

My good friends Don Andrews on drums and Randy Gibson on steel. Not quite as well known as some mentioned but certainly great players!!! When it comes time to play "Amazing Grace" I still think no one did it better than Harold Flynn.

Since we are going back further than the last year or so I certainly would want to include one of the best friends I ever had in the steel guitar world. That would be Zane Beck. He was the most generous person I ever knew in the business and of course he was an awesome steel player.

Last evening I happened to click on C M T and saw a Marty Stuart video playing. Who was there - - the late "Gary Hogue" and that particular video spotlighted Gary several times. I know he is in that Heavenly Band with the many others like Jimmy Day.

Thanks Dave, I've been thinkin' about Johnny too. We're not restricting this to just country pickers either!
And GOD YES Jerry, let's not forget Don. He was a fav. of mine too!

Golly gee fellas and gals, I do hope the "Heavenly Gig" in the sky is not restricted to only American musicians...as we here in Canada have lost a few mighty fine steel guitarists over the years also. Two of whom come to mind include the sweetest of steel guitarists, Frank McPhalen, of Vancouver, while the latest was the very groovy and fine jazz steeler, Jack Mooney of Winnipeg. Is it o.k. for them to sit-in with the above mentioned names in that great band in the sky ? They paid their dues.

Durn right George,
To qualify, it don't matter where you came from, only that there gone now. I'm gonna add another one that some of you don't like but was a top notch musician, Buddy Rich also on drums. (ducking the flame darts!)

You're right Jody. MOST people here have probably never heard of Slim Idaho, but he was a great player. Yes, he was killed in a cycle accident...1949, I believe. And yes, I was referring to Homer Haynes (of Homer and Jethro fame) who was a fantastic rhythm man. He could play a chord for every note in a song, and never miss a lick. Also, Texas Ruby probably isn't well known, either. Suffice it to say that she was sort of a forerunner of Patsy Cline.
