Does anyone know how many different colors the bakelite knobs were available in besides the basic black and white?
Also what colors were available on the bakelite cases? Here, I'm refering to the inner padding. Mines is a dark green. |

I've seen red "flying saucer" knobs.
One B6 case of mine has a crushed "blue" interior.

| Are both shaped and rectangular cases original? My 37 has a Geib shaped case with green interior. |

| As I can figure it, black or white were most commonly used, red occasionaly in the 30s and maroon sometimes on postwar. |

| I rebuilt a shaped case, 30s bakelite, and the lining was purple. Ugly purple. |

Ray, do you think yours may have been a maroon color? I've read some websites on bakelite jewelry where the color had changed over time.
Bobby Ingano told me that they also made the knobs in green. Anyone seen a green one to verify this? |

| Derrick....anything is possible. At first and second glance, I'd say these were mfr'd brown but then again, I could very easily be mistaken. Never seen any of the other color variations of which you speak. By the way, I have a case identical to the photo, same rusty snaps, etc. Mine had a horrible musty, mildew oder to it however. speaking of cases!
I just ordered a case cover from http://www.coloradocase.com/
They're just down the block from me. They make nice case covers. Primarily to guard against thermal shock - ie. hot sun at Bluegrass festivals. But they protect the original instrument case too.
I ordered a padded one for my Bakelite rick such that the original case will fit inside the padded case. It was $165. Custom ordered since they've never done one. But once mine's done - they'll know how to do these so you'll have another option for protecting your old cases.
I'll post pics when I get it. Unfortunately it won't be ready when I come to Honolulu this month for HSGA
