Hi gang !
I have my order in for a 7-string M S A SuperSlide !
I'm thinking about asking to have a hipshot trilogy tuning changer added on to it while it's being built. Is there a problem regarding string gauges with the Hipshot ?
I intend to use E G# B E G# B E, and then quick-change to a 7th or 9th of some kind...
Any input or opinions ?

Is there the required space behind the bridge for the Hip-Shot assembly to be mounted?
It looks tight to me.

Ed, you would need to see if MSA would "customize" their design to accomodate
the Hipshot unit, which is 3 1/4"-3 1/2" long. This would mean relocating the pickup closer to the neck by 1 1/2 to 2", it looks like, which would change the sound of the guitar for sure. Then you'd have to see if the string spacing of the Hipshot unit, which is fairly wide (.410") could be a problem-- this would depend on the MSA pickup.
The good news is that with the MSA you can add the 8th string to get your 7th or 9th...
Very few "stock" steels have enough room for the Trilogy between the pickup and the end of the guitar (you need a "roller" bridge in there too). Melobar and West Coast
lap steels are the only ones I've seen that might be able to fit in the Hipshot without a design change. Then you've got Loni Specter's "Red Necks", which turn a Strat or Telecaster into a lap steel-- some have added a Trilogy to that setup. -Steve
