Who was the Steel Player in the soundtrack of Gene Autry's 1937 Movie "Rootin Tootin Rhythm"?
Love those glisses!

Inquiring minds want to know.

Man that's gonna be a good one to research. the band was Al Clauser and his Oklahoma Outlaws which BTW at one time featured a young gal named Clara Ann Fowler who went on to become Patti Page. Still researchin the steel player.

I beleive that the steel player was Frankie Marvin.Frankie had a brother who played steel with Gene Autry as well, his name was Johnny Marvin. Those glissando's were Gene's trade mark.

Jody, is that the same Johnny Marvin who was a radio star in the late 1920's and '30s?

Dan
I'm not sure. The Marvin I'm referring to was a steel player. Could be I'm not certain.

I'm sorry

To add to what Jody says, Frankie Marvin and his brother Johnnie played guitar on Gene Autry's first session for Victor in 1929, which was a short time after they got acquainted with each other. Before Frankie was hired as Gene's steelguitarist he had his own career as an excellent singer and yodeler.
