Another great example of Jerry Byrd's "creative" talents on the current tune being played on Jerrys' Music Page on the jerrybyrdfanclub.com site.
Mimi Roman is the vocalist and Jerry contributes stuff that pedals, of course, aren't even needed for.
By the way, wasn't Mimi Roman, the somewhat heavy-set girl featured regularly in skits on the old "Hee-Haw" Series, with Grandpa Jones, et al? On this record, she sounds much "slimmer"; lacking that hefty and powerful voice displayed on Hee-Haw.
Tab is great for learning....but don't make the mistake of "leaning on it" for the rest of your playing days. |

That was Lulu Roman on Hee Haw. She toured around for awhile on the Southern Gospel circuit and was a friend of my fathers, on a casual basis; he was a Pentecostal pastor. Haven't heard from her for years. |

Ray I really like that Renfro Valley Barn Dance Clip of Jerry! Wow! Where'd you get that rare gem? Sounds very Hawaiian for a country show!
And, you playing Steelin' Home on your Bigsby is pretty spectacular!

Neato, 18 y.o. Jerry... and in "C#m" tuning!
Sounds like somebody was listening to McIntire records. |

Ray, just listened to your fabulous recording of "Steelin' Home". What swinging touch and silky tone! I should have inquired much sooner but, do you have solo albums of this stuff available? You must! I did a web search and could not find any. |

Hey Keith! Many thanks for setting me straight on that "Mimi"/"Lulu" confusion I was involved in. I don't know how I managed to get so far off base. Appreciate your help.
Jeff Strouse....you'll have to thank Scotty for that clip of JERRY BYRD from the Renfro Valley Barn Dance. Wasnt' it a jewel?
Jeff Au Hoy, Thank you for the kind words. All I have is the "dubbed" tape from the olde television broadcasts. Glad you enjoyed them for what they were.
Thanks to all for visiting the Jerry Byrd web site. |
