Hello from brooklyn.
I'm in need of some advice on cleaning and lubricating the tuning machines/pan on my '60 Fender Champ.
A couple of them are so stiff that it's starting to worry me. Being fairly non-mechanical, I'm wondering if it's something I should even bother attempting by myself.
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks.

I had that same quesiton. Some of my choices were Oil, Grease, WD-40, Silicone, Graphite. I was going to try one on each tuner and see which worked better, but if others have already solved the problem, I'm certainly willing to learn.
Also, I have a Joe Walsh video that says to lubricate your pots with WD-40 rather than pot cleaner. He was talking about the stem as well as the electrical portion. Has anyone tried that? |

I always have used WD40. It seems to keep the pots clean for longer, as well. Tuners are pretty easy, just clean them with a toothbrush and apply a drop of machine oil to the gears. |

Before I put the tuner pans back in my Stringmasters, I put white lithium grease on the gears. It stays in place a lot better than oil.

I just did the tuners in my 55' Stringmaster and I used some lithium grease on the gears and some light weight oil at the point where the shaft comes through the pan. I also adjusted the screw that holds the gear in place on some of the tuners that were too stiff.
