Here's another tune from me, a 'duet' between my Lazy River Weissenborn and synth. I recorded the Weissenborn at home and sent it over to a friend who added the synths and mixed it in his studio. Hope you enjoy it!

Northern Lights

Oh, and by the way, here's a couple of photos of some beautiful northern ligths that appeared over Norway in January this year. Any wonder I make this kind of music?

Very nice Steiner. Nice textures. I especially like the chord change you do at around 1:44... adds a whole new perspective.

Excellent job.

That piece really touched me, Steinar. Sitting here on a chilly morning sipping pea soup, looking at your northern lights photos, and hearing the mp3... I got "transported" away. Thanks for sharing that.

I wish it went on longer.

Loni,- these pics are from the northern part of Norway, here in the south we usually don't get that strong lights. But this January they were so strong that we could even see them here,- unfortunately they weren't quite as beautiful as these...

Jeff,- thanks, that means a lot coming from a player of your caliber.

Steinar,
I really enjoyed that. I'm a big fan of "new-age" music. It put me in mind of Bruce Kaphan's "Slider" album. You ought to record a whole album of that kind of music. I like to listen to that kind of music when I'm driving a long trip. I would, also, use those pics for the front & back cover.

Thanks a bunch guys! Comments like these are important 'motivators' for me.
I'm about half-way through the writing and recording process for my CD, and though it won't be entirely in this style - there will definitely be more funky numbers as well - this track blends nicely with the rest.
I've always been very interested in sounds and sound design, it's probably no surprise that Daniel Lanois ranks as one of my favorite producers.
Tunes like this one can be quite tricky, I feel I'm balancing on the edge between "art" and plain elevator music, but I think I managed to land on the right side here..

Hi Chuck, I'm playing this in Dmaj7, DADF#AC#.
I wanted to test it out after I heard Harry Manx do some nice stuff in this tuning, and this is what I ended up with...

Wonderful!
My wife, who is rarely impressed with anything that I try to have her listen to, just LOVES it. She plays it repeatedly where she works!
Well done!!

Yep, that's what the northern lights sound like. Nice job, Steinar.

-Dm

P.S. If you've never seen 'em, they're worth a whole trip.

Every so often-- when the sun gets really feisty-- the whole sky crawls with giant, glowing, purple-green worms, and the colours get so bright and well-defined, and move so fast it's as if the sky were covered by a glass dome, and million-gallon buckets of pink, white, green, and blue paint were being violently hurled at it.

It's just about the best thing in the world.
