I am extremely interested in one of these for my Sierra. It's so cool that you guys are doing this, Rick! I love my Sierra but I miss my Ricky... after talking to Jason I think this will be pretty unbelievable. He described it as between a Horseshoe and a string-thru Fender tone... lovely.

Ahhhh = a tone that seems to be "alive".
Upon playback ... it sounds like strings attached to a "Waterford Crystal" steel guitar ... Thats what I keep striving for ... 
These are not mellow ... by any stretch of the imagination ... Yet they are not "shrill or piercing" either ...
This Sierra and Lollars bobbin has been my "constant" ... in my "Adventures in Magnetism".
I've gone from set of extra long Hardened Steel (Longfellows) Horseshoes ... To Cryogenically treated Steel Horseshoes ...
To a set of extra long Neodymium H-Shoes ... and now this MRI w/pole piece bobbin.
The Hardened alloy steel shoes (my first products) ... really made it sound "Ricky-ish" ... that 3-D sound ...
I was really proud of them (and still am). Jason probably has sold more of these than any other of my "creations".
The cryo ... added abit more of that crystal-like effect that I crave.
Then came the neodymium H-Shoes ... much more power ... much more "lively" and responsive.
Basically, pick lightly ... nice transparent, soft sound that retains its "high end".
Pick harder ... a more "solid", more penetrating tone ... still very pleasing ... very bright, yet full.
Compared to these ... my hardened steel horseshoes and original Rickys for that matter ... seem Dull to me in comparison.
Now with this assembly ... The output is even greater ... yet the field density is lower ...
There are no high density regions next to low density regions ... the distribution of the field shows almost no variation ...
The horseshoes (steel or neodymium) ... has that gap ... which throws "turbulence" into the equation ...
Even when I closed the gap on the H-Shoes to almost nothing ... the effect was there.
Magnetic lines of force seem to like sharp corners ... and gravitate toward them.
Thats why the "Eliptical" shape ... no corners.
I wanted to make this version for several reasons ... and although this particular setup will ultimately "disappear" from the Sierra as soon as Jason finishes the "Pole Piece-less" bobbin for it ...
It basically showed me that this uniform field is the way to go ...
And that I could achieve the sound I want with very little bulk.

Y'all gotta suffer thru my "practices" to hear these things I make ... sorry.
Its rare that I get 20 minutes/day anymore ... so here's last nites "session" ... in my "Pro Studio" ... 
Yes, those are the ultra rare "RCA Boom Box" speakers ... a Micro Cube ... a Flattie (noisy rascal) ... and a Russian mic from Music Center ...
Oh yes, and that ever popular BIAB acoustic piano ... pumped thru the RCA.
No reverb, effects, etc ... Micro cube tone at 10 O'clock on VC mode ...
Anyway, ...
MRI w/pole piece bobbin ...
These MRI's "clip" the crap outta that amp on any kinda bass combos ... sorry.

great bright transparency on the note to note, cuts like a knife, good fade to the note.
Definition still comes across when you push hard, good fuzzy wrap around each individual note on your chord strums!
Whats your plan on these? Direct replacements?
Could I modify a Little Roy Wiggens lap (an eight), with a version of this p/u?

Thanks ... I'm very pleased with it (the pickup ... not my recording/playin').
Our plan ... is to make available ... alternative Around the Strings(ATS) pickups ... to folks that enjoy that kinda sound.
The main goal on this particular unit ... was to see if I could make an ATS* ... small enough to be practical ... yet produce the kinda sound my bigger units have.
Being smaller in "stature" ... we hope folks will embrace them more as choices for their steel, slide or even plain ol' electric guitars.
So I decided to try and make an ATS for the Sierra's "massive" string spacing ... and have it smaller than a set of Ricky horseshoes or Fender Traps ...
As far as direct replacements ... that was another goal for these smaller ATS units ... so if folks wanted to drop them into an existing guitar ... less routing would be called for.
These smaller MRIs with the "Pole Piece-less" bobbin ... rides so high ... very little if any routing will be needed ...
Just drop in and go ...
I have recieved a few emails this morning ... sayin' its tough to really "get a grip" of what's going on from such a cheap recording.
So I've decided to really treat y'all poorly ... and post all of last nites practice session ...
Which features a very well respected vintage instrument ... followed by our three "creations" ...
Until I can get someone who can really play ... and record in a real studio setup ... that'll have to do.
Check back in a couple hours ... 
* ATS ... I just made that up ...
