Does string gauge make a difference when only changing the pitch of a string 1/2 tone? I think it does in some situations:
In a regular C-6th eight string set (on a 22&1/2" scale guitar) the G&E strings (4&5) were .024 and .030 respectively. Using this set for B-11th, I find substituting gauges, .026 for F# and .032 for D# seem to have better sounding intonation between these two strings and sound better with the tuning over all.
It's a small change, but the added tension on these two strings sounds better to me, for this tuning.

Hey Rick; on a 22 1/2" scale, I would of certainly used at least a .026w for F# and .030w for the E. Actually I use a .030w and .034w for the F# and E; as that helps the sustain and intonation on a short scale> TREMENDOUSLY.

Hey Ricky,
I'm glad to hear you say that. I always think my strings sound (and feel) too wimpy, but I play the guages that come with the set. They seem to be the same guages recomended on John Ely's site too.
What guages would you use for the the complete 8 string set on 22 1/2 for C6 and or A6? I'm interested putting something heavier on my Stringmaster, but I don't want to harm the tuners.
