I am extremely familiar with all of the superlative work that Mike Auldridge has done on acoustic lap steels. I have heard him play pedal steel as well. Can anyone tell me if he has done much recording on his superslide? Where can I find a representative sample of his playing on electric lap steel? |

Great choice Andy. All of the Chesapeake stuff is "out there"!!
You guys will love the new John Starling and Carolina Star project. Due out early 2007. Mike is pretty sassy on resonator guitar, Weissenborn and lap steel.

How much of this album that was pointed to is lap steel vs pedal steel? I listened to a few samples and definitely heard pedal steel. Ed asked about his non-pedal playing. (I do, however, like what I hear, pedal or not!) |

I believe "Let it roll" is a lap steel piece. Mike's pedal steel playing on "The Last Thing on My Mind" is particularly great IMHO. |

Andy, I was thinking the same. Really nice pedal on that sample. |

I believe Mike's playing his Rick on the Chesapeake stuff---6 string, tuned to open G, just like a dobro.
Incidentally, I am the proud owner of the cone that was in Mike's Guernsey on the Chesapeake stuff. Mike signed it and gave it to me in Ivan's shop!
Cool, or what??? |
