Now that I am comfortable with different tunings and I have three guitars with C6 Amaj and Open D I will be looking for a twin or triple neck. What do I get? Old or new, Remington or Fender? What do you like and why? Good advice always welcome Thanks.

Robert, there's so many different unique soundin guitars, where to start? I own Oahu, Rickenbacher, fender and National lap steels and each has it's own unique beautiful tone. I also own a Fender Stringmaster T-8 and a Fender Deluxe 8 and both have their own special tone too. I like playing western swing, hawaiian, blues, rock and country and sometimes certain guitars have "that sound" that I hear in my head, so I would say that the music you like to play might factor into which guitar might fit that style more. What kind of music do you like?

A Fender Dual Professional or Custom D-6 or D-8 with trapezoidal pickups would be a good, affordable choice. I'm picking one up next week.

My focus is 1949 to 1959 country, standards, rockabilly, and pop instrumentals. Hank, Elvis, Eddy, anything with a good melody. I play steel because it's a good Chord-melody instrument.

Robert, a Remington Steelmaster will never let you down.
It's accurate, sounds great and built like a tank.
I have several vintage steels - Fenders, Gibsons, Rickys, Nationals - but the Steelmaster is the one I take to live performances.

Robert you have to decide what tone you are looking for out of your non-pedal. Typical Hawaiian, western swing or borderline pedal steel?

From what I have heard from the three mentioned, Remington steels are not all that far from a pedal steel sound when taken right of the box. Believe me, they are a beautifully toned machine. (I am going to shopping for one myself this coming summer)

Fender produces the real or genuine Western Swing tone from start to finish. A great sound in my opinion.

The Frypans and others similar lap steels bring to you the typical Hawaiian steel tone or sound. They almost make you wish you were there.
