Is the Waikiki playing schedule on the HSGA Website correct? It indicates no performances on Monday or Tuesday evening.

It's as correct as far as I know.

I rely on the musicians and music fans in Hawaii to relay this information to me.

We do not have hidden cameras mounted in hotels and bars monitoring for steel guitar activity.

Is there any entertainment at the Halekalani on Monday and Tuesday?

I'll bet there would be cameras if Jerry Byrd were still running the organization. This is just another example of the sorry state of affairs at the HSGA.

Scott,

I just reread your post and thought about it some more.

If you were trying for sarcasm you should of used some 'smilies' so people would know your true intentions.

Sarcasm is very hard to achieve in writing unless you are a very good writer. Most people on Internet forums are not-so-gud writers (including myself). Smilies help keep us out of trouble.

If you weren't being sarcastic - please elaborate.

Whew! First of all sorry, Roger, that my lame attempt at humor blew your thread off course. (Note to self: remember unwritten Forum rule #1--Howard does the jokes.)I hope someone still gets back to you with an answer to your question.

Gerald, I thought my post was fairly dripping with sarcasm, but lest there be any misunderstanding, smilies will be added for clarification where appropriate. When I posted that, I was thinking of you and Ron and the recent "lively" threads suggesting that the HSGA isn't what it used to be. I have no idea if that's true, and no axe to grind either way. I'm not even a member,(and after this, probably have no chance of ever being one) it was just a little insider remark that I thought might amuse avid readers of the Forum of all persuasions who get it. Hope I diffused the "grenade" and that no one's ticked off at me.

Why should anyone be "ticked off" Scott.
This forum has as much humor as it does information, and I hope it doesn't change.
Besides, I don't even know how to make smiles!! ( I'm a real computer whiz).

SO, who else is dead??

As a young man once said, "I see dead persons walking around" You remember him he was in the movies.

Now to answer your question Roger.

Quote:
Is the Waikiki playing schedule on the HSGA Website correct?
Generally not completely accurate, but still a useful guide as far as the places, but not the performers.

Quote:
It indicates no performances on Monday or Tuesday evening.
There are performances at the Halekulani and the Moana on those nights.

Don't forget Auntie Genoa at the Marriott on Thursdays.

Aloha,
Don

Don, the Sheraton Moana no longer promotes steel guitar. Starting this coming week, a piano player (Ginny Tiu) will be performing in the sunset slot on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I haven't heard/seen a steel player now for over a month.

Halekulani is the only place to go as the only hotel having a steel player 7 days a week; and once management changes, who know?

Thanks for the update, Derrick.

There did seem to be a consistent sound problem at the Moana in projecting the music, particularly the steel, out where it could be readily heard. Have you ever noticed that Derrick?

Look forward to seeing you, Roger. I'll be there for the convention in April-May.

Aloha, _
Don

Don,

The people that set the sound for the musicians are electricians that work for the Moana hotel. They have no training or audio background what-so-ever.

All these guys do all day long is change light bulbs when the lamps go off in guest rooms! And get paid $20.00 an hour, how's that!

No good excuse not to pay my dues and become a member, particularly given the fact that I have been the recipient of some incredible generosity by a couple of the HSGA's most distinguished members, Mssrs. Creller and Aiello. Just HOW generous, Bill, I hope you will permit me to share in words and pictures in the future.

Come to think of it, no good reason not to have ever visited Hawaii either. Especially since I live on the coast of Oregon and on a clear day--if I squint a little--I can actually see Hawaii. (oops)

I'm going to start looking into how I might be able to make it there in April. Maybe if I start swimming now . . . ?
